Hey guys, looking for ideas on fabricating door tracks/guides, window frames for my 29 Dodge coupe. My doors were pretty bad, the only guide in them was at the forward edge, so there is no guides at bottom or rear, as well as there are no window frames or regulators. I picked up some 32 Ford regulators as I would like to not go electric. I may be over complicating this, but just thought Id throw this out there and see what others have done.

oh, also where does one find the universal felt channels or guide liners or whatever you call them

  2. I have a set of 29 dodge frames somehwere but you don't them. they were used before safety glass to keep things together in case of breakage.
any regulators that are short enough and made for flat glass will work just fine. I have several hundred NOS and used early ford regulators. they would not be my first choice for this conversion.

I don't know which series 29 you have but a DA doesn't have window frames in the doors they are part of the door itself. The door has a slot across the inside top of the door to slide the window down and then has a cover to close it off

I don't know which one I have either, it was beyond a
Basketcase when I got it. Mine does have the slot at top, and it has one guide that is still part of door, that was all that was there

Post some pics if you can.

You can buy new metal channel guide pieces for inside the door, look in any model A catalog. May have to trim to fit.

  6. You can get good quality generic window channel from JC Whittney as well as kat whiskers.

As far as fabbing something I think I would just go to a wrecking yard or the neighbors yard if you live next to someone low rent and rob the window guides from a whatever car then adapt them to your coupe.

  7. the guide channels inside the doors I make my own 5/8 wide 3/8 tall and have seen guys that just split square tube if you don't have access to a brake

    Mark,
I took a pic of the Drivers door I have been working on, the channel is hard to see on the inside of the door, hope this helps for window installation, I will be doing mine soon, I was going the hand crank route for my windows, Maybe go to your local glass shop for side track channels.

Thanks Chris, what latches are you using? I bought the bear jaw ones, which work great but the window track will be tough around the latch and then coming up with outer handle linkage to the latch is a bit of a bitch also, ideas?

    Mark,
Check out the smaller size bear claw latches, I would think the smaller size will work out, I do have the orginal door latches and window mech. from the door insides. I have not gotted to far on that part of my doors, I also thinking like bbrrppwwnn of using Electric windows.

thanks Chris, I think I have the small ones, I would like electric windows but think it would be cool and old school to have mechanical windows, let me know what you do with yours

    Mark,
For right now it has the orginal Powerflite behind it, going in the car this way if the trany is ok, and then some day go with a 727 Mopar, The engine is and orginal 1954 331 with factory 4 barrel carb and orginal air cleaner, It turns over and so far its been cleaning and rebuilding carb, water pump, fuel pump and etc. Hope to fire it soon.
Got to love the Mopar all the way with all the 29 dodge builds !!!
