Hey all, I thought I was getting close to wrapping up this engine. Until I got the call from the fella balancing my bottom end. He asked if I had the flywheel and damper...... Nooo....I haven't even thought about it yet until now. Any help would be appreciated, here are some specs: 1969 Chevy 350 block w/Voodoo 262 cam and flattops, nothing special heads, performer intake and edelbrock carb. 700R4 ****** 3.73 geared end My thought was to build a good strong runner for a cruiser. I have no starter either. I'm looking though parts list and getting more confused? Tooth count, Diameter, billet, anywhere from $80- $400!!! Also the crankshaft is made to have a press on balancer. No bolt. Any suggestions would really be appreciated.
And now would be a great time to drill and tap your crank snout for a balancer bolt. 7/16-20 I believe. Dave
You don't really need the flywheel and damper to balance an internally balanced engine like a 350. You probably want to run the "large" flexplate, 14" 168 tooth, and get the matching starter for it, the most common easy to find one fits vehicles such as a 1977 chevy C10 pickup with a 350 engine. Should not cost much, if you dont want to spend much. also be sure to get the correct bolts for the flexplate, torque converter, and starter. The torque converter bolts need to match the transmission, they will be metric. The other stuff could be for that mythical 77 chevy pickup.
How did you get an engine without a damper and flywheel? You can buy a new damper for under $40 and a new flexplate for under $20. I'd use a fluid damper but they are over $300. The flexplate for the transmission has to work with the starter mounting holes on the block as well as fit the torque converter. If you can use the block number to determine the vehicle the engine came out of you can order parts by that application.
