I was thinking of a 5 speed when i did my swap. (In a 57) but i felt the truck ****** would just be a dog. Personally i would just stick with an auto trans.

Be prepared to fab a new firewall and trans tunnel if you use the truck trans. Those ZF 5 spds are huge. I would sell the ZF and look at getting a Tremec TKO or similar to back up the 460. Also, try doing an intro. It is mandatory for Newbies.

Ive been a member for awhile just not been active due to personal reason I was wondering if I could get away with just modifying the tunnel alittle bit. how well would the 460 it self fit in it

Again i know its different but it sure as hell was tight goin into the 57! And i think thats a whole different cross member up front? I think itd be best to get the engine out and measure how much room u got. Like i said i only have experince with a later ford but im sure some one at some time did it! Good luck and i love how those 53s look

Mine was a 77 and a c6 from i think a 79 t bird( had a strange trans mount). Honestly it wasn't to complicated just a squeeze. Lucky for me crites makes mounts and headers so i wast to bad in that sense. Clearance between the oul pan was tight had to trim down the crossmember and very tight in the front couldnt fit a fan so i had to get the brackets in my radiator flipped to have good fan clearance. Not 1-2-3 but i think people havr had to do worse. But like i said i think ur car us different. The 460 is m***ive.

Even if you have been a member since way back in June, It's required and courteous to do an intro. Especially before asking the membership for help/info.

I am not a Ford guy but I do like big inch swaps. Being curious, I did a search for '460 Ford engine swaps' and found plenty of everything except for the shoeboxes. If you push ahead with your swap you might consider do***enting what is required...you just might be the latest 460 swap hero...
I would give up on the truck 5-speed however, they are bulky and not likely to be an easy fit into your car.

I don't know how big the trans tunnel is in a 53 but when I installed a T5 in my 57 Ford Custom 300 (292 yblock) it was a pretty tight fit in the front of the trans. Like a 1/4in. on the r. front. Tight but it fit.

I am swapping in a 1968 429 into my 53 mainline and i will be taking lots of pictures of the swap. Im using a C6 ****** though. I know your using what you have already but i think in the long run for you will be far less headaches and less work going with a auto instead of the truck 5 speed.

I kno the truck trans is low geared but im thinkin off regearing the ford explore rear end high so it dont seem so low ,as of right now im 550 in the car and engine and trans and rear end just alot of trading up .i do have the 215 inline 29,000 miles runs perfect
