$5000 is about what you expect to pay these days in OZ.The last two I bought ( years ago ) were still around $2000 each but were rebuildable. Hemis were never sold here when new so every single one has had to have been imported privately. I am sure they are pretty damn scarce in the USA now too because they weren't exactly common even when new.
Glad to hear the seller is going to stump up a crank...perhaps he's been reading this?.
Whats the engine number? head casting numbers?

    Can anyone else verify this?

  4. 354 and 392s are actually fairly easy to dig up stateside. Between a couple folks in our small (population wise) area I can think of 1/2 dozen. Most were bought for 5-600.

What is the outcome of this? Did you call crankshaft rebuilders about this like OLD4DLVR said? Just for the record this engine would NOT have come from Rob Thompson as he is a GOOD guy & doesnt selll ****!...Hemi

As per the post above there is another crank on its way from the seller, which I have on good authority is in useable condition. Will probably come up with a creative use for the ****py one.

Well that sounds like good value. I'd be up for a 392 at those prices :)

Post you engine # (stamped into front top of block just ahead of lifter valley). A 392 should have the first digits, not letters, either 57 or 58. Post head casting #s (located in center of head under valve cover). Also there is an extensive thread here (somewhere?) that may help, also look up Hot Heads website for addit. info. BTW, that 354 oil pan (rear sump) is usually more desireable and definitely more valuable than a center sump 392 pan. You will probably need it.

Just for the record I have never supplied a HEMI engine or crankshaft or part in that condition.
Australia is too small ( including the world) to p*** stuff off like that !!

  9. The rear sump pan was used on Chrysler car engines for 1956 and earlier years - so it most likely came from a 331 or 354.

1957 and 1958 Chrysler car engines (which 392's are) had center sump oil pans. The oil pump pickup tube in the picture appears to be the center-sump version.

  10. Really, a 7 year old thread/problem ?
The record needing straightened is long ago, tad late no?

Damn Pete sorry about that. I would have sold you a complete 354 still
***embled for $2000. Or a running 331 industrial for $1500. I would crate and hand off to a shipper for actual costs. I will let you know if I come across a 392 crank. MickeyC
