I've got a 50 Chevrolet coupe with a 235 I just installed . I converted it to 12 volts and I now want to upgrade to dual exhaust and a dual intake . I'm looking at a offy dual intake I am running a Rochester truck carb that has a manual choke I have a carter carb from 48 pick up that's a good carb . What carb would be best to use carter or rochester so ill need to find a second carb for the intake . I'm new to the Chevy scene spent the last 12 years tinkering with flathead fords in my 51 ford Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
One thing to remember is that the Carbs match, same type, same jet size etc etc.......also that Carter carb from the 48 won't fit a 235 intake since the Carter carb is slightly smaller as are the Rochesters for 216s while a 235 uses a slightly larger carb and I believe those 235 carbs are all Rochesters. All the Strombergs, Carters, and Zenith I've had were all for 216s.
Like Jcmarz said above. I usually run Carter YF's. Run whatever carbs that you can find; which are two of the same.
i run carter yf 964's on my dual intake, chevy 235.just welded up mounting holes on intake and redril for carters.no big deal.
I have 2 Rochester B's on an Offy and Fenton's on my 235. Runs well. Very nice. If you don't mind patina gas stains from the leaky tops. Manual choke on the back carb only. I don't have manifold heat and it's been fine that way for years. And yes I drive it in all kinds of weather, cold and damp, as well as nice days.
I second no manifold heat, it is so close to the headers anyways that it gets plenty hot. I have two rochesters on a 216 and it is hard to get the factory 450 RPM idle with twins though for some reason. It is hard to get two that match, even if they look the same on the outside the insides can be different. I went through several to get enough parts to make two identical ones, good thing they are cheap.
Talk with Tom Langdon at stovebolt engine. He sells a kit with Holley Webers that is very well known.
