I have a 56 ford courier(sedan Delivery) W/ a 351 Cleveland and I'm getting an erratic spark. It has new points and condenser, and I've tried three different coils. Any thoughts on were to go next?

Possibly tracking on the cap or rotor or a loose top bushing causing the dwell to go wacky?

Check your distributor cap and rotor for wear.
Pay attention to the carbon pin in the top and outer contacts .
Also could be crappy leads breaking down .

replaced cap, rotor, and plug wires. Still no improvement. Problem is happening before cap and rotor. I put a spark tester on the coil, and the spark was inconsistent w/ the opneing and closing of the points.

  5. Bypass the ballast resistor and see what happens.
