Looking at putting A/C in my '59 Edsel (Ford) wagon.
I already purchased & installed the condensor from Vintage Air, and my engine already has a compressor on it.
But not sure which under-dash to go with. Their website skips right past 59 Ford cars.

Any experiences to share? It doesn't have to be Vintage Air , can be another brand.

  2. If my memory serves me correctly the 59 Edsel dash is flat on the bottom so any unit that has a flat top configuration should work. HRP

    Saw this one on E-bay

  3. Vintage Air doesn't sell any add-on underdash units as such; all of theirs assumes that you're replacing the original heater/defrost system. What you seem to want is just a AC unit, something like this: http://www.classicautoair.com/classic-under-dash-air-conditioner.html

This is just one style, you can also find 'factory' type add-on units as 'integrated' systems (all hidden, with the vents in the dash) didn't become common until the late 60s. These leave all the OEM heater/defrost stuff in place, and this recirculates the interior air for AC. One thing I don't personally like about most of these 'do-it-all' aftermarket heat/AC systems is you lose the ability to add fresh outside air to the heated or conditioned air, and sometimes even lose the fresh air 'vents'.

What about the Vintage Air Mark IV under dash unit. I've heard great things about them.

  6. Whoops! I forgot about those..... As long as you stick to the cool-only units, you can retain the stock vents, etc....

Thanks guys, I did want to replace the original heater with a heat/cool solution. The original heater was floor/defrost only and I reckoned using a unit that has those two functions + A/C under the dash.
