What would be the best route to go for front suspension that is reasonably priced for a cheap driver custom say from 1928-31 other than stock and something that would work with a big block. Thanks
we need a lot more information before we can point you in the right direction. pictures are worth a thousand words. frame? suspension type? other than stock? what kind of car? model a?
If I don't sell this then I will be looking to build around it. I Have a spare dana 60, some wheels and tires and few other odds and sods and definitely need a four speed for this.
I dunno, man. "cheap driver custom" with that mill? You're not talkin' like a rat rod are ya? What are the wheels and tires?
No, definitely not a rat rod. Something in the 1928 to 1931 era and not a show car, jst something to go out and rip around in. Most of the build I would do my self including body and paint. T- buckets are cool but.......... I have some 15x14 centerlines for the rear. I am not looking for fancy just functional but with a little bit of the cool factor kind of what you see on some the Ts. Just doing some research.
28-34 Henry axle… split bones… transverse spring… probably a GM 525 box… cross steer. Or whatever you want… a mid 30's MOPAR tube front axle would be cool. Ditch the 15X14 wheels and tunnel ram… keep the BBM…
All of the above, but I might add.... You can build a great looking little roadster out of just about any body on the cheap. It's all in the design. Stick with the I beam axle. If you run a spring behind with a suicide perch you can easily use a stock Model A, eat weeds and be in for around a hundred bucks. Extra points if drilled. Just remember, that Mopar ain't been through the Weight Watchers program. As much as I hate to admit, a set of front discs, (Speedway kit # 913-3948PLN), which gives you all the other parts you need for the axle including new spindles with fitted pins, tie rods etc., are going to be a welcome addition with that much oats. I know we all run '40 drums but lets face it, the first time Mom in that minivan whips out in front of you with 12 kids in the car they won't do the job. Fab a frame of 2x4 .120 wall and you're on the way. This one really needs the 8 3/4 rear behind it. If you're thinking of building a bucket remember... Way too much motor is just about right.
Thanks for the replies guys. No 8 3/4 as I have a dana 60 with 4.10 gears and it has to have the big wheels, sorry but I am a big wheel fan through and through. I did fab the tube chassis for my 69 Superbee tribute so doing another one for a rod would be fun. I would post a few pics but I don't want to be slapped. I would definitely go with discs just because.... Robert
