Haven't seen it in person yet. Currently deployed and wont be able to see it for quite some time because its months before I get back and I dont plan on heading to Georgia for sometime. And I wont be able to mess with it until I get my current 53 done.

Its my dads wifes fathers. My dad hasnt given me the info that I have asked for like year and history but I have pics and price.

Can you tell me anything about it? What would you guys pay?

Well, a big Block Chevy fits in one pretty nice. My buddy James Hurst of Waco, Tx had a nice but simple one back in the 70's with a stout 396 and 4 speed in it. They do make pretty nice little hot rod trucks if you keep them fairly simple.

I can't help on the value of that one as I am always way off base on that.

A friend of mine just bought one for 1800 close to that condition. The 216 babbit beater was clean under the valve cover, and runs good.

The truck is in rough condition..but I really like it and would go to $1500,,that said I paid $600 for this truck which after going over your pics is in better condition but it all depends on the market, who wants it and how bad the seller wants to get rid of it. Don't lose it dickering over a few hundred dollars.

Here in the northeast, that would be a great deal for the buyer.

Chevrolet built the same truck until mid year 1947, when they came out with the Advance-Design line in the summer of 1947. So what you said about 41-47 is still true.

Personally I'd offer less, go up to $2500 and pay the $2600 if needed.
PS Wouldn't that be your grand dad?

  9. I would check out the cab corners. no pics of the lower cab. 2500 seems reasonable as it appears complete

If it's solid, and not rusted out on the lower body or floor pans, I don't think the asking price is out of line. Looks very complete, and buying all the little trim can really add up quickly!

I wish I had grandparents that had stuff to leave me. My parent never married. So this is my dads wife my mother inlaw. Long story short I have never even met 2 of her 4 kids. My dad and I had a falling out for a few years. So this is my dads father in law truck. I tried to hint to my dad to keep the truck in his back yard until I have settled down after I leave the military in a year and half but if it doesnt benefit him he wont do it. So ill have to transport it to Louisiana and then off to were I get my next job.

Next question is hot rod it? Or if engine matches make it all original and sell it (for more potential profit)?

I understand how much peices add up as I am building 53 right now for the wife. How about the patina? I was even thinking slapping in a cheap mustang 2, take out 8 inch rear end, engine/tranny and cleaning up the inside and make it my DD. But i dont want to tear into it it could be restored to all original with matching numbers and get a profit for my next dream project.

If you're thinking about buying it to flip, then I'd have a different opinion on the price. I'd try to get it down closer to $2,000 as your interest is now a different question than originally posted.
And if I was flipping it, I wouldn't do much to it. Give it a thorough cleanup, see if it's possible the engine turns over and isn't froze up. If it's possible to clean it up, and get it running (even if it smokes and doesn't run well!) that's what I'd do. You don't want to invest much time or money into a flip. Just make it the best you can looks wise, and running (if possible) and send it down the road.

You're 1/2 of what 5 other guys say is a fair deal. What's your rationale? Or, are you just being cute? In any case, I expect you'd not go home with that truck. :)

if it was in W.Pa. i'd snap it up at $2600.....if it has a title.

  18. Hardly!,,if I was trying to be cute I would have used a smiley...

There are still a lot of these old trucks in the South..a friend of mine recently bought a 47 Ford truck for 1,500 bucks and drove it home. HRP

Danny's just stating what he would pay for it, not what it's worth. It's value varies depending on locale.

It is true that the OP asked what someone would pay for it, not the usual WIW. So like the young lady who agreed to sleep with a guy for $10000 but balked at an offer of $100, we know what it's worth, now we're just talking about what we'll pay.;)

  21. Without a title, you just have so much more to deal with. No title trumps body condition, whether the engine still spins, etc. Still doable, but sounds like if you want it, you should act fast and get it in your garage or storage.

This is the most true statement. I will find out soon. And im not in a super rush. He wasnt even going to sell it. So im the only one on the list so its not a time war. And who would deny a deployed soldier a truck that he wants to buy and is partially family.

That truck looks in good condition and the asking price seems reasonable. Looks to be a 42 or 45, because all the trim is blacked out, and it's a 3/4 ton by the looks of it.

If you're thinking you'll get more money by restoring it that's not true, you'll probably get more money if you build it into a nice street truck. I have a 455 Buick in my '46, there is lots of room for a big block in the engine bay. The cabs are about 8" narrower than the Advance Design trucks, and shorter as well, so they're not terribly roomy, but you can't beat the style.

You can look here for pics of mine if you want inspiration.

I think you mentioned it being in Ga. and titles are not required here for OLD cars. Of course, being it has been in the family, they might have the title. I've seen about half a dozen projects in similar condition recently for about 2500 in similar shape but without engines...so I think it's a fair price. I'd shoot for 2 grand, but don't think you'd make any money on a flip, especially keeping it stock.

Here's the 'other' end of the spectrum... I acquired a 49 Chevy pickup, free, and delivered to my property (free). In my opinion, it looked better than the one you show. It was (and is) solid, no cancer, not running, and all there including interior (shot) and gauges. So, obviously, my opinion of value is a little lower than posted above. On my 49, I kept it awhile, did almost nothing to it, and flipped it (free). I delivered it for the cost of a tank of gas. In my opinion, and at the time (two yrs ago), there wasn't much value... Just an opinion.

It would be worth more than a tank of gas for scrap. And, I'll bet 100000 HAMBer's would be grateful for the gift. Thanks for passing it on to someone who will baby it.

Could you please elaborate some more? So if i was a GA resident then how is the truck transfered to my name? Just registration? My situation is a little tricky. I have a SC drivers license, stationed in Louisiana and is technically a texas resident with vehicles registered in mutliple states including caifornia. and plan to settle down in texas after i end my military service. So in short I am hoping a registration is sufficient enough to get a title in a different state.

If i proceed with the pruchase of the truck.
