Didn't see a post already... A little late in the day, but I wanted to get this mostly mocked up before I posted. Yeah, it's supposed to look broken. Isn't that the look most are going for these days? Haha...'31 sedan, chopped (and vertically sectioned behind the rear window to correct bad kit proportions), stretched and Z'd (in the back only) A frame, Lincoln V-12 with 3 carbs, '32 chevy grill shell. Group shot of some of the cars I'm trying to finish for Pistons n Paint
Got a little bit done this week, have almost finished a model a roadster. Dunno if i have posted this before, finished it in the past few weeks Had some spare ugly wheels so they went on this: Dont look that bad now :>
Are these 1/24 scale? If so, how close are you when you take these photos? I took some photos of mine a while back, i was about 12 inches from them and the photos looked like I was 3-4 feet away.
I was kinda waiting around for somebody else to start it this week, and you guys did a nice job of that. Great stuff! I'm working on a "taco wagon" '60s-'70s style showrod. It'll have a surfboard on the roof as a sign, fajitas frying on the pot-bellied stove and a barrel full of iced cervezas on the back.
Fidgiter where do you get your models from. I have been looking for a sedan but cant find one anywhere? Jonney
I have been at the Picnic all weekend and had no images prepared. Then when iIget home I think to myself, why didn't I take shots of the model display at the picnic. I did take one shot though. That being the concept model of the 'Effigy' done bye the Holden designs studios, it is around 1/3 scale I believe! Geoff aka whodaky
That '31 sedan he used is currently available from Revell-Monogram in their "rat rods" series, IIRC. It's got two versions on the boxart: a flat black one with WWW and flames and a lime gold one with Hurst mags. The V-12 came from a '41 Lincoln Continental kit that hasn't been available from Monogram for a few years now.
I went to the web site and could not find the listing for "rat rods" or do you get them from some where other than Revell-Monogram.com?? Jonney
Well, looks like they've discontinued the sedan for 2006, but they're still making the '29 A pickup. I still see them at my local hobby shops, though I see that Hobby Heaven is out of stock already. Maybe some of these shlubs can direct you to someplace else that still has them in stock.
Knuckledragger, I don't know what part of NC you're in but Earls Speed & Hobby in Gaffney, SC has a big selection of current & old, discontinued stuff. If you're anywhere near there its a cool place to check out.
They're still on the shelves around here too. Hobby Lobby usually has a couple, or Hobby Town USA. If neither of those places have it, then turn to eBay. Ebay has everything. I usually stock up if I'm at the store. I go in to buy one kit, come out with 4 or 5, just because some day I know I'll need some parts from or will want to build one of them. Today I opened a box I thought was full of parts, and found a mostly sealed kit. Good news....they are re-issuing the Revell new tool '32 Ford 3-window and roadster kits under the Goodguys series. The 3-windows are still everywhere, but I can't seem to find the roadsters. This time, I think I'll pick up half a case of each, just to be sure I don't run out anytime soon Now if they'd just put the "rat rod" series front axles, and wheels and tires in the '32 kits, I'd save a lot of money! And btw, the '31 sedan is not one of those "rat rods," it's just called a hot rod on the box.
Well, I cant say I did any work on these this sunday, in fact I have worked on any models for over 5 years, but heres some pics of unfinished projects from when I was big into models. If it wasnt for models, my car fascination may not have taken me this far, so here it goes. The first engine was from before tradional rods were my thing, and the pages of late 90's HOT ROD magazine were my inspiration, but I put a lot of work into the project, and it will never get finished (the engines goes with a deuce vickey converted into a pickup, with a real wood bed, hand formed brass IFS, custom tube frame, not one part is stock off of a plastic tree. The engine is mostly scratchbuilt (with the exception of the block and trans) from milled and turned aluminum. With the exception of the carbs, if it looks like metal on the engine, it is real metal. The trans is a Model Car Garage kit. The Model A engine is a project that I started to build a traditional A rod, I hadnt started on a body, but the sispension was started, as well as wheels, with Replicas and Minuatures co of MD wide whites. I never finished this engine either, but it was all from aluminum (milled and tuend on a sherline mill and lathe) and would have eventualy been sandblasted to get a cast look.
my dad started to build this over 20 years ago,,it was a model of an actual car we had as a family,,he sold the car and never finished the model..i was unpacking some stuff and i found it..i went out last weekend a bought another kit to finish it ..i've never been a model builder myself and dont really have my dads talent,or patience for it..but i really wanted to finish this model ...
Here's a 1/64th '53 Chevy pickup from the "Von Dutch Garage" collection. I filled the quarter windows, nosed it, and painted it blue with the white tarp and interior. I also re-set the stance; more nose down; less tail draggin'. I'm working on a real '53 Chevy pickup and I wanted something to look at from time to time for inspiration. This is pretty close to the way I want the real one to look like. pigpen
Here's a couple under construction. CJ CJ's Scale Auto Modeling Corner Home of my "Pint Size Custom Cruisers" www.CJHilton.com/Models
FYI Poncho, if you'd rather take the "instant gratification" route, the Danbury Mint has a 1:24 scale die-cast model of a '55 Victoria in the same two-tone green colors as your Dad's model. Check it out here, at the bottom left corner of the page: http://www.danburymintdiecast.com/t1.asp?Page=18
