I know the bias ply are original equipment and period correct - but when selecting new Coker tires for my '54 Hudson what's my best choice?!

That's a dangerous topic of conversation on the HAMB, be careful or the popcorn will come out. Radial is akin to RatRod around here.

Do a search. This used to come up monthly, now it's fodder for FNG's.

Both work, use what you want. HRP

  5. Radials will handle better, wear longer, give better fuel mileage, probably be cheaper, and won't look quite 'traditional'.....

    There ya go.....

I have heard they make radials now using bias ply molds. I'm told you can't tell the difference looking at them. I haven't been shopping lately and can't verify that. If I don't find out here I'll find out when my bias plies wear out or rot off of my slow build.

If you drive it often as you should, radials. Bias do have the better and "correct" look so save them for the shows and cruises.

I'd sell my car and find a new hobby before I put Radials on it.

Yep, it seems some haven't read the rules sticky, or did and just ignore it...#5:cool:

    Why Was My Post Deleted?
    1. Did you confuse the H.A.M.B. with Facebook? That we are not... Save your personal strife, random observations, and rants for your choice of social media - it doesn't belong here.

    2. Did you post a "pray for me" thread? We don't do religion here. Join this group instead.

    3. Did you disrespect another user? We believe verbal battles through the internet are ******** and as such, we delete all that we can. Further more, if you can't express an opinion without bagging someone else's, maybe you should rethink the validity of your opinion?

    4. Did you disrespect the H.A.M.B. or a member of its staff? Feel lucky that all you walked away with is a deleted thread or post. This is the quickest way to get your account deleted.

    5. Was your thread something that has been covered over and over again? Try searching next time. We've had countless threads through the years on bias tires vs. radials, the definition of "traditional," and many other topics. We don't need to rehash what the bulk of us already know.

    And, most importantly:

    6. Was your thread about something other than traditional hot rods and customs? Aside from a few "sidebar" topics that interest the staff here, we don't allow off topic posts. Your definition of "traditional" might differ from ours. That's fine. However, this is our forum and it's our definition that the forum is run off of. <!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

I usually judge my tires based on if they are holding air, have tread and are not too dry rotted to do 80 on the freeway more than if they are bias or radial. As long as I have a GOOD set of tires that don't look stupid in the car then I'm good-to-go personally.

Check out some of the car show threads that have radials on opened wheeled trad themed cars. Those pix should be deleted. Hells Bells, some of the bias look like tractor/hay wagon tires!! If you want to feel the flames, go ahead and push the radial/bias war. Or worse yet, push the radials (like cam shaft boyz) on the 'Ron Obvious' (Monte Python plug here) basis that they are f a r superior that those of 40 years or even 20 years ago. No sheet, Sherlock!

Bias plies just look better and they don't handle all that bad if you get a new set or a set that's been stored up good. At the very least just get a tire that looks right on the car. I just put a set of old Remington H78 wide white walls on my 51. It handles a lot different but it looks a whole lot better than the radials that were on it before. Coker does make a radial that looks a lot like a bias ply.

On a fender less hot rod it's gotz to be bias because you can see the entire tire. But for what your doing? Radials.

Go with radials. Every traditional ride with radials makes my sled with bias plys look better in comparison :)
