Hi guys, just wondering whether 1946-8 Chev sedan rear fenders are the same as coupe fenders? also is the rear panel between bumper and body the same for all models?
    Thanks in advance, PB

All rears '41-'48 interchange. Business coupe and sedan delivery have no hole for gas filler. Rear '46-'48 gravel pans are all same except sedan delivery.

I believe some of the other 41-48 GM cars will also interchange. The problem is the other GM lines had small cars and big cars. The small cars are basically Chevies with different trim and front clips. My 41 has a NOS Buick trunk lid on it.

That is the smaller 'A' body. Olds, Caddy, Buick built larger 'B' & 'C' bodies with longer wheelbases. Some things may interchange between series. Eg Fender trim on 'A' 66 series Olds will interchange with 'C' series 98 Olds but not 'B' series.

'41 doors skins are smooth, '42-48 have odd blisters at the front, which are hidden by the fender extensions. So, yes, and no. As for other GM fenders fitting yes, they interchange, but no, they're different. the small series Pontiac/Olds fender fit, but they are a couple inches wider, and 46-47 Pontiacs have "speed whiskers" stamped in, so won't match your fronts.

I don't know about coupe doors, but the treatment should be similar to the sedan doors for the same years.

I have some 41 2dr sedan doors and am in the process of fixing some 47 2dr sedan doors; which are really roached. The front door frame is different and the hinges are different between the 41 and 46-48 doors. The 46-48 front fenders have an extension that bolts to the door. The 41 front fender is completely different. But one thing that seems constant is the basic shape of the door between the years.

With all of the above said, I'm going to take a 46-48 4dr door apart and use the front section of the door frame and weld it into the earlier 41 door, every thing else should work. At least all of the measurements that I've taken seem to support that notion.

I think that the 42 door is the same as the 46-48 door as well.

Are you converting a 4dr to a 2dr? I've been thinking about doing that. This is how/why I have the 41 pieces. Several years ago, I picked up a 41 2dr sedan and was going to use the quarters and doors on my 4dr.

I'm looking at converting a 46-8 4 door sedan into a coupe. Your info on the different hinges on the 41 is awesome to know Fordcragar! Many thanks on that.

I know the lower part at the front of the door skin is different from the 41 to the 42-48 doors ,due to the fender extensions and the different mounting of the rear of the fender ,GM changed the sides on the cowl. The 41 runs straight down and the others don't.

I just looked at the doors that I have, a 41 and a 47. There is a difference to the front edge of the door, but overall, I don't see a problem with making a 41 door fit a 47. The big problem would be the front section of the door frame, as I mentioned before, the rest should be easier.

If you get into the project, let me know how it works out. I'll do the same if I get there first.

Oh yes! Near the top of my list is a 37 GMC PU and a 29 Ford AA truck. The GMC will have a later Chev 6 with a T5 and the AA will have a Ford 2.3 Turbo with a T5. I have probably 95% of all of the parts, just need to put the time together to make them happen.

The 47 Chev was a daily driver and has been sitting for a few years, with a broken engine. I have another 235 Chev 6 to put into it and it might get back on the road by next summer, but the 2dr conversion might take a little longer. This car has been a 235ci with a Saginaw 4-speed and 55 Chev rearend. It has a Mustang II frontend and air conditioning. Like I said, it was a daily driver for over ten years.

The quarter window gl*** on a four door is smaller than the coupe. The window is the same basic shape, but the trim will be different.
