looking to customize my 47ford truck dash and wanted to see what some of you have done! I have been looking at a 50's business coupe dash and know it will need to be shorten to fit but I like the style was thinking were the ash tray is I would keep the door to the ash tray and when you open it their would be a place to plug in the IPod etc.... Any suggestions welcomed?

That sounds like a good one to put in that truck. I've got the dash minus the instrument panel out of my old 51 Merc that I bought in high school (I used a different 51 dash when I redid the car in the 80's) that I plan to put in my 48 Chev pickup. It will have a big round speedometer and some smaller gauges in a custom panel though. I've had one buddy put a 55 Chevy car dash in his 48 pickup but don't have any photos.

  3. Here's mine I put a 51' Ford dash in my 53' dodge pickup.

That looks like it belongs in that truck. Custom changes done right when they work like that.

I just finished putting a '50 Ford dash in my '51 Ford COE. I had to narrow it about a foot. Will run the original '50 cluster and put a tach in the smaller clock opening.

The 59 dash looks great and I really like the doors molded into it ! Doing a 59 in my 42 gmc coe . Im using cl***ic gauges for 57 chevy (3 hole ) and using outer 3 holes for ac vents .

    great idea for a thread
my only claim to fame was taking the p*** side hump out of my 55 Chevy Dash.
Sorr no pic for now as that was the days of film so I will have to dig.

Not a great pic but it does show p***enger hump removed.
Also I have found the Rustoleum HAMMERED paint to my liking for texture.
    Either spray bomb or brush.

  16. wow! some great ideas here. i too am building a 46 ford pick up, i would like to swap the dash in it, but just have not found it. so i removed the orig**** cluter and filled the space with sheet metal and used a five guage set, 3 in the cluster and 2 in the center of the dash between the cluster and the glove box. i also installed 64 dash hardwear, ignition switch, h/lamp,wipers, and heater controls. looks good but won't stand up to these. i post a picture soon.
    great thread
