Like most old generators, mine has oil caps on either end. How often should I dump oil down them, and what tupe of lube do you recommend? Thanks.

I think the manuals tell you a drop every thouand miles. Too much will wind up on the armature. If you ever take it apart, put sealed bearings in and leave the cups for appearance sake

Just looked in an old Motors Manual and it covers adding a few drops of light engine oil at each tune up.

46-54 Plymouth manual says the oil cups in the generator need 5 to 10 drops of SAE 10W every 1000 miles

It also says the oil cup in the distributor needs 5 to 10 drops of motor oil every 1000 miles

when i would check the oil on my old Dodge,
I would let the drops from the dipstick drip into the oil cups.
wasn't much, but never had a bearing problem on the generator.

    Hi - Jack (somewhat)

Hows about the grease cup on the distributor of a Stovebolt 216. You know the cup @1'' attached to the dizzy base. I think you're supposed to fill it and then screw it in a few turns every once in a while. I always been meaning to look that up.
I was surprised that the distributor in my '61 Comet which has a '71 Maverick six has an oil cup just like " in the old days ".
I believe it was the NASH that had central grease fittings with lines that went to the suspension points. Now that's "state of the art".
