I believe the skyliner is the same as 2 door hardtop. A 59 Edsel windshield would work as well. I got a windshield out of a 2 door Edsel and it went right into my galaxie hardtop. Hopefully that helps. Maybe 1 of the other guys can clarify this as well.

Retractable? As I recall, they're unique to that body, as they're "chopped" compared to the other models. Back when I had a '59 retractable nothing was interchangeable with '58 or '57's.

  3. I own 1 of all 3 years, 57-58 & 59. 59 is all by itself. Hardtop, Convert, and Retract share the same Glass. 59 2 door and 4 door Sedan do not fit.

    How about the Rancheo windshield?

  5. The Ranchero sits on the retractable and 2 door wagon platform.

  6. 59 Ford and Edsel hardtop (pillar less) convertible and retractable hardtop all use the same glass. Still available call a local glass shop order a DW 572

Nothing but a retractable or the ragtop will fit. . All other 59 body styles will swap with each other except the convertible and the retractable. I have had over 30 59's and have installed several windshields in these.

Yup, 59 Fords and Edsels use one of two windshields which are not used in any other car:
    NAGS#:
W571, Ford convertible and retractable and Edsel convertible
W572, All other Ford and Edsel body styles

I read that the retractables were built on the 2 door wagon body, in order to have enough depth to stow the top.

When parked next to the sunliner converts, the rear quarter section appears higher.

As for glass, Ford did a lot of interchanging, right up thru the late 90's.

has anyone heard of this? 4TTRUK

There were four different frames in 59. Skyliner, sunliner, wagons and ranchero's shared a frame, and all other body styles used the same frame. The retractable frame was narrow in the rear so the top could drop down to fit in the trunk. 57 and 58 had bastard quarter panels but in 59 they had made it look a lot better.
