I've always noticed at the stop light in the turn lane that no two car's turn signals flash at the same rate. If they ever came close to matching I thought the driver might be a kindred spirit. But they never do sync up and I never understood why, especially if it was the same year, make and model car. Well, yesterday I was working on wiring my turn signals on my 34 Plymouth. I got the hazards flashing but couldn't get the turn signals to flash. My Hot Rod Wires fuse block has a dedicated two prong flasher for the hazards and the turn signal. Even when I swapped the flashers the hazards would flash and turn signals in the front and back would only dimly glow. I left the garage frustrated to give me some time to soak on the problem. I actually had a hard time sleeping last night because of it. Then around 2am it occurred to me that the rear tail lights are LEDs. They don't have nearly the same load as a filament bulb. So the hazards had just enough load from the front turn signals to work but a single filament bulb and LED load wasn't enough. And that's when it occurred to me that a typical flasher operates based on the load which is going to be unique enough that no two cars will every really flash at the same rate. So I think I solved the problem on my 34 but watching turn signals at the stop lights has lost its mystery. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Yeah, understanding how the flasher thing works is helpful. There's a bimetal strip that heats up because of the current flowing thru it, as it gets to a certain temperature, it bends the contacts away from each other, breaking the circuit, and causing the lights to go off...as it cools, it then bends back and makes contact again, and starts heating up. http://www.howstuffworks.com/turn-signal2.htm Newer cars use electronic flashers, which have a timer circuit. And some very new cars are computer controlled, there is software that uses some type of time delay to run the turn signals.
...and I thot I was the only one who watched turn signals at stop lite! (maybe WE are kindred spirits)
Try two new cars same make/model and see if they flash at the same rate. I dont' really care, but I expect they would.
I may be old but when I sit in traffic I try to watch pretty girls in short skirts walking. Especially if they are braless. And most people in Florida either don't use turn signals or leave them on all the time. But then again, no two girls ****ies bounce at the same exact rate. So now I will lay awake tonight trying to figure this one out. I suppose determining whether or not those ****s are real or enhanced might make a difference. Yet another mystery of life.
^^^ ModelT1 you make Florida sound so joyous. Here it's guess what's under the sweater weather. Sent via Illinois Bell Telephone Company's Car Radiotelephone
Me too thought I was the only guy in the world who cared about how fast other flashers go. I always try to see if two cars flash at the same rate...
Me too. I guess it gives me something to do while I'm sitting at the light and there are no ****ies to watch.
My wife is too quick to notice the smile on my face when I watch the ****ies. I installed an electro mechanical flasher tonight and it worked like a charm! Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
I remember in 6th grade, watching the girls swinging on the school swingset. I noticed that Laura Murish and Susan Dunn never stayed in perfect sync. And I didn't really care either. Not much in the way of ****ies, but on the forward swing, there was often some flashing.
I like watching posts on the HAMB as they start on one topic, then turn into something totally , mind bogglingly, weird!! Too freakin' cool.-MIKE PS-Every time I try to watch turn signals, I get hypnotized, and all I hear is horns blowing and people shouting to get my *** the **** out of the way!
Don't most cars built in the last half decade have their lights controlled by computer and not us a conventional flasher? Personally, I'd like those old indicator arms that swing out from the A pillar. What did those come on, foreign cars?
"Trafficators" were used on some '20s cars here in the US. More than you ever wanted to know: jack vines
I got to vote with Model T1, I'd much rather watch the girls than turn signals. Maybe if the chicks had flashing lights on their ****s and ***es it would interest me!!
Haven't you ever noticed that when you have a bad turn signal bulb that the remaining bulb flashes twice as fast? That's your warning signal to change the dead bulb.
Thanks! Those would be pretty neat tucked up under my model A visor. Sorry to stray off topic. Was there a topic?
I agree with you 57dude, no one to the right, no one to the left on a dead end street just that ***hole two blocks behind me WELL that ***hole was a cop that was a fifty dollar bill
