my 49 project. ran a bbc/400 turbo with tunnal ram and two fours in it in a previous life before it sat in a feild for 5 years now a 283 for now hope to drop a desoto hemi in it. it was subframed unfortunatly but i can live with disc brake and power steering for once

I do know a little bit about it, who built it and drove it etc.

Only ran a few times in Vermont at the Devil's Bowl Speedway back in the early or mid-80's. It was supposed to be a sort of "low-budget" type class with "late model" cars. Not sure all the rules and regulations on it...

As for the car itself, I talked with a guy who helped build it- he said it actually ran with a Hudson Hornet engine, but was somehow adapted to a Ford '39 style transmission. The rearend is a Ford banjo, that still has the torque tube attached- but is running parallel leaf springs. Also, somehow, it has 3/4 ton full floater axles in it.... Not sure how that all works.

 

My very first car ride ( 3 days old ) ( 1947 ) was in a 1937 Hudson Terriplane Coupe . Later my Father was in a 12 car accident with it. He said it was real foggy. He had a couple teeth knocked out. He said he went to the Hudson dealership and ordered sheetmetal.

 

I don't think I've posted on this yet but if so I know we didn't have my wife's '47 Commodore 8. So here it is also along with my '51 Pacemaker

 

So, we just picked up a '47 super six. Our plans are to drop in a small block and automatic that will tow a 24' Airstream. My question is, does anybody have any expeience with the front suspension on these? Or would a Fatman subframe be more in the cards for it?

New guy here. so here is my 54 Hudson Hornet I like the Hudson as well. I still have quite a few post to reply to before I get to get to where most of you are. but all have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving day

My dad has two 47's one is a sedan and the other is a truck very cool. as far as the front suspension he used fatman on both. on my 54 I used 78 Camaro sub frame and rear end. engine is a Buick 455 with a 2004 behind it.

The Hudson front suspension is not a bad one to use. Parts are available on ebay as NOS and current production.
We just started working on a 41 with the same suspension. Added disc brakes and a front sway bar. Power steering can also be added with some effort.

 

I have heard that from some one else also. Do oyu know what type of ride they have? I have also heard that the stock suspension is a very nice ride.

I know your dad, he has had each of those cars at our Pigeon Forge meet in the fall. Great guy and great cars. That truck is a sleeper, I thought it was bone stock until he popped the hood and showed me the drivetrain.

Bring your 54 next year! Great looking car, I've always liked 54s.

Being that my last name is Hudson, I would kill for one. I would totally trade the 56 wagon for a Hudson !

Personally I think Hudson has a great suspension setup. I'd keep it stock. Kanter has all new parts to rebuild it. Not super cheap but a whole lot less work. I have a '47 and a '51 with stock frontends and they drive great. The '47 even has big block ford power.

who makes disc brake conversions for the stock front end of a 48?

 

Is a '38 Hudson coupe a rare car? My father has one in unrestored condition sitting and not so rotting in his attached garage.

 

38 coupes are pretty rare, any 38 is pretty rare. Pictures?
