This was recently discovered and the guy wants to restore it, and I'm trying to help. It raced SoCal in the 70's. Any info/pics that would aid it's restoration appreciated. Thank you
Doesn't look like it has traveled very far on those rear tires! Looks like a fun project. Good luck...
Very popular name for drag race cars. One is in a photo in the Lost Drag Strips publication By Tommy Lee Byrd
Dad's last car was a Dart GT about that same year, with a slant six it would run 110, I think he was surprised when I told him
Looks like the long lost "black car" to the Shockers "white car". There has to be a huge number of former drag cars put away due to all the drag strips disappearing one after the other. And the plans are? Butch/56sedandelivery.
I know about that car. I owned it for awhile. It was originally purchased by 2 brothers. It raced locally in the Southern California area in the late sixties and all the way until the mid 70s. When I got the car it came with tons of paperwork. They raced it with a 426 max wedge engine equipped with a tunnel ram and 2 Holley 750 double pumpers. At least that’s what the receipts and paperwork showed. Mostly bought at local speed shops. Including Burbank speed and marine. They were going to revamp the car in the late 70s and pulled the motor and trans and parked it in one brothers garage in the west valley/north ridge area where it stayed until the 1994 earthquake in north ridge. The one brother was having medical issues and was no longer involved in the car. During the quake part of the garage collapsed and damaged the roof and hood if I remember correctly. It was just 2 small dings but the brother decided it was time to sell. He sold it to a friend and I talked him out of it......only to go through a divorce and loose it myself. It was super clean and garage kept when I got it. Sorry to see what time has done to it. Hope you get it going. Would love to see it back on the track. Great little car.
Groucho, I now own this car as of today. I agree with you it is a great little car and I would love to find out more about this car. You mentioned that it came with tons of paperwork. Do you by chance still have the paperwork or any other info pictures etc.? The car itself is still very solid except for the paint of course but it has no body rot what so ever and appears at this point to need very little to it going again after sitting for so long which is the plan. Any help would be very much appreciated and if by chance you are coming to this years March Meet it would be a pleasure to meet you as I am racing.
There is a Marcus Wright in Granada Hills, that city is close to Northridge. That might be him. Go on Zaba Search for his info......
I would love to talk to you about the car. I really would love to see it back on the track. I apologize for not keeping up on the post. I live in the Antelope Valley and frequent Famosa as much as possible. Next time your there I’ll make a point to go and we can certainly talk
