Bought a 55 4 door post and the guy I bought it from said the trans was rebuilt. I installed the trans but the cross member will not line up. if I bolt the cross member to the trans rubber mount the cross member doesn't line up with the bolt holes on the frame. Its off about an inch. I checked everything to make sure the trans is installed correctly. The engine motor mounts are correct. Seems like the trans needs to move forward but there is no way for this to happen. Wondering if this is the correct transmission for the car. Unfortunately I ***umed it was the original trans and didn't check the numbers before putting it in. I hate to have to pull this thing back out. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks

Yes I tought about that but it clearly wont work that way plus the tree holes for the trust mount are only on one side. I measured the trans and it measures 25 1/8 to the torque ball plate. Looks more like this trans is from a super or road master maybe.

BTTT .I would be interested in the answer to 53kempers problem cause my kid has a similar issue with his 55 Buick which has has a 322 4bbl out of a non special and something isn't quite right in the lenght department. Are there different lenght dynaflows?

I've got a 55 Super. From what I've found out, the super and road master had the same trans. It was a one year make for it, the 2 speed Dynaflow. Low and drive. 2 separate gears. L was just for the low gear and D did everything, no shifting although it feels like it does. The special was a different trans from what I've been told.

  7. I had problems with mine when I replaced the motor and transmission on my 56 buick station wagon .I had to jack the cross member up and down about 4 times before it lined up .Keep trying. Bruce.

Ok Sorry for the late reply. Turns out that the reason the transmission is an inch longer is because its a 1956 transmission not a 55. I ended up modifying the mounts so it would fit. Texas55 from the old Buick forum helped me out with all the info. The one major problem I have now is the spline from the 56 trans doesn't match the 55 torque tube. If anyone has an old 55 dynaflow laying around and want to sell that part I'm in need.

    Thanks

So if the trans is one inch longer , wouldn't the torque tube need to be a different length???? Otherwise the rear end will move back an inch as well?

That's correct, but I'm told it doesn't make that much of a difference and the rear tires don't look like they are to far back. Well I'm hoping the info is correct. If not I'll have to shop around for a 55 Trans
