Anyone have any thoughts on how to bolt 20" Model AA Budd disk wheel to a 5 on 4.5" 9inch rear-end? The Budd wheels are 5 on 6.875" (6 7/8").

My thoughts are to weld up the bolt holes in the wheels and redrill them on a mill with a rotary table.

From what I can tell the patern diffeance is to great to use a wheel adapter, it will not spread the load properly.

I forget if those are split, or not. Go for it.

When we race circle track, we had a plate that had different bolt patterns. Just bolt it on and drill the new holes. We used it to change ford axles to chevy bolt pattern. I don't think it went that big (5x6.875) though. Bought from a race parts supplier. Went away with the rest of the circle track stuff.

Not technically split but they do have a "snap-ring" bead.

Yeah I thought about milling out a drill guide for them, but I came to the conclusion that making the guide on the same mill that I would drill the wheels on wouldnt really be any more acurite then just milling the wheels.

I think I'm going to have to weld in a center hole reducer so I have a little more meat left between the new holes and the center hole. which should be no trouble since they have a shoulder on the back side in the center hole.

  8. I really love the look of those Budd wheels. I've got a '29 AA and changed over to a 1960 F-350 running gear (wheels, spindles, rear axle, brakes, etc.) just so I could come close to the look of Budds, but with the stout, later-model durability and higher cruise speeds.

I'd sure like to see photos of the changeover: Before, during and after. Sweet!
