I have read a number of the different post about the T5s and their use with the later motors, but I am still finding a hole as to what I am looking for. I currently have a T5 mated to the back of my 1967 Chevy 283. With the bellhousing I currently have, I need to use the 153-tooth flywheel. For that fly wheel, its a 10-10.5" clutch. Everything is still ok so far, but the clutch disk/pressure plate is where I am now struggling. I have the 14-spline 1" T5 which tends to be a smaller disk. I have come across a couple that look like they could work, but I am looking for some external advice. I have found that speedway offers a "flathead" 10.5" disk with the 14x1 center. would this work on my setup? Can I purchased the clutch and the plates separate? most I have seen have been "sets". -VOH
Did an S10 conversion years ago ( early 80s ) and you can use a clutch disc from an Astro van with a 4.3 and 5 speed. They are 14 spine 1" shaft
It was a flywheel for the 11" clutch disc and steel bell housing, and just flipped the hydraulic slave cylinder over and used it with the fork arm and regular throw out bearing. Hope this is helpful.
I currently have a 168 flywheel and a 153 bellhousing. I need to buy one or the other just trying to see which is the best route. Everything points to the astro is in fact for the 168. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
You do not need to buy them in sets. I'm a big fan of going to a clutch rebuilder and just telling him what you need...they'll custom build anything for you.
ok, couple more things before I pull the trigger on these parts. I have the 153 tooth, billet steel flywheel now and will be going with the 10.5" clutch. Do I need the 9" clutch disk or will the 10.5" actually fit in the 10.5" pressure plate?
Clutch discs are named after their diameter. A 10-1/2" clutch disc is 10-1/2". Clutch pressure plates are named after the clutch disc that they are designed to clamp. If it says 10-1/2" pressure plate, it is designed to clamp a 10-1/2" clutch disc.
Good luck. I went thru all this also. Still havent fired the car so I have my fingers crossed that I bought all the right parts. I also had to buy a 5/8 spacer that pushes the tran back from the bellhousing so every thing mates together.
