I've got a stock gas tank in my '36 coupe and I'm using Autometer gauges. The stock sending unit on top of the tank has 6 holes to attach it to the tank and the Auto meter unit has 5 in a smaller pattern. Does anyone make an adapter for this out there? Suggestions? Thanks!
I made one for my '34 out of a large flat washer, about 1 1/2" if I remember correctly. Just drilled and tapped some holes and in she went.
Thanks Folks! Problem is that now 2 of the %$#$% old mounting screws are seized into the tank, and being as they're soft metal the screwdriver ^&%'d them first try, and now I've got to figure out how to get them out cuz they're really hard to get at. Never fails! That said, the Autometer pattern on the sender is smaller than the stock one , only 5 instead of 6, and one , possibly 2 , screws line up just enough so it'll be hard to drill and not screw it up. Maybe I'll just trade the car for a Prius!
I got an adapter from Speedway and J-B welded it in place. Several of the original screws had broken off.
Gas in the tank, tank's in the car, hard to get at, I hate explosions.....! I could live with "the chance of a leak" !
My VDO sender was a direct bolt up in my OEM 35 Chevy tank. Just trim to suit depth of tank, doesn't get any easier.
