It was the fastest stock American sedan. That means it was fast, but not as fast as the Corvette. ;)

I am a big fan of 1957 cars. I own two of them, a '57 Plymouth 2dr wagon and a '57 Chrysler New Yorker coupe. BTW, I noticed that you don't have either model in your gallery, Bill. :D

This is my favorite 1957 American car.

I've been under the impression that the 57 Stude hawk was faster (quicker) than both the T-bird and Vette.

I remember a 57 Black Plymouth hdtp that had a Golden Commando V8 with the cross ram 4 bbls.---talk about fast. Jack Mann was his name and he went to the top of the heap literally overnight. God, it was pretty.

6/7/14---it might have been a '58. But it did have the crossram. Salivate.

Fastest car in my hometown was a 57 Ford factory-supercharged 312. The owner's dad had an all black 57 Dodge 2 dr. hardtop...I think it was a hemi-powered D500.

1957 just may have been the best year ever for styling unless you consider the great cars of 1932 like Packard, Cadillac, Pierce Arrow, Duesenburg, Lincoln etc and of course all the makes we could afford.

One of my favorites from 1957 is the Cadillac Eldorado Brougham

I've seen those figures before, and I always wonder, what happened to all the 57 Fords? More of them made than 57 Chevys, but you see the Chevys 50 to 1 over the Fords. Sometimes it seems like every 57 Chevy ever made is still on the road, and almost all the 57 Fords are forever gone....:(

57 was a very good styling year. After that, styling seemed to go a bit down hill, the bottom to me is 1959. :( Most 59's were ugly.

    Definitely a great year.

I don't know first hand, but Old Roy Montgomery (r.i.p.) told me that the '57 Ford bodies had a lot of areas that harbored moisture and crud, and tended to rust badly. Maybe that had something to do with why we don't see more of 'em.

Yeah my dad had a D500 Hemi in 57. I loved that car. I was only ten but I got it when ever he put his foot in it.

Yep, and today you see 50 of those '57 Fords for any Chrysler product from that year.

There is a black convertible up for sale that comes close to that description. I think the price is a bit optimistic.

I bought my first new car in 1957. I chose this Olds:

Stick shift, power nothing, 2-door post sedan. Not super fast, but a very nice car.

Yeah, something less than 1% were equipped that way. Unfortunately it was a fragile trans (Buick design) in a heavy car, and I replaced the stock trans with a LaSalle floor shift box when the car was nearly new.

I've heard that a LaSalle trans bolts right up to a Rocket motor. True?

My dad told me that his '57 Plymouth was the worst car for rust that he ever had.

True, a lot of the 1957-59 Mopars had significant rust issues - especially the early '57s.

I would buy this one. :)

Yes, provided that you have a standard shift bell housing.

  24. I have the carbs and intake for a 300C but..... I'm missing the rest of the car.

  25. Oh man, what a sweetheart! One of my favorite cars as a tot. Love the three-part rear window. People fuss over the '57 Chevy but I think the '57 Olds, Buick, and Cadillac are the great ones.

great year for cars ---got a story about just about every one except the rebel---like to hear that story...

  27. 1957 was a watershed year; the peak of the fifties horsepower wars before the AMA ban, and also the year that cars got longer/lower/wider at Ford/Chrysler with GM following a year later. And superchargers! Fuel injection! Power options that didn't reappear on 'production' sedans until the eighties....
