Hi I have a 48 Pontiac Streamliner did any know what the number on ID plate are ? Style No - 482807D what are that means Body No -P22929 what are that means Tanks Ernst from Norway
In ny it would be registered with the body number my 31 pontiac is the same way the style number should be the body type 2 door 4 door wagon. Don't know for sure if it's the same for 48
Style No 48=year, 28=Streamliner with the straight 8, 07=Two door sedan, D=Not sure, something specific for 1948 models. Body No P22929 tells the production plant and number of the body, P stands for Pontiac, Michigan. There should be a smaller stamped plate on the firewall too, in your case it should start with P8. Can you find it and tell what it says? J. C.
Hi D=Deluxe I just bought one as well. I found this site to be helpful http://www.pontiacplace.com/dh4248reg/ Plate info http://pontiacplace.com/dh4248reg/decode.htm
Follow jom's link to decode it, it basically shows what you already know. I thought it might show what transmission too, since this was the first year with the Hydramatic as an option. I suppose that info didn't come until 1949. By the way, at the front end on top of the engine at driver side, there is the same code stamped if it is the original motor. Here is a link to identify engines between 1949 to 1954: http://1952pontiac.com/index.php/decode-your-1949-1952-pontiac-serial-number/ Congrat's to a nice car. I recently lifted out the straight 6 in favour for a straight 8 in my '47 Streamliner. Where in Norway are you located?
