...for the 60s/70s heads? I'm considering steel. Any ideas? I've got some plain ones, but they are just that... pretty plain.

The coolest ones IMO are the ones that have the Chevrolet script stamped into them... similar type style as the "Corvette" on the finned aluminum deals, but in stamped steel instead.

They look really cool when you weld a couple of studs on there and put some Olds covers over them too.;)

no, no, no, NO! Chad knows better than that.

um, not that there is anything wrong with it... :)

If you don't like the script, you could always run these... :) (kinda look like a retarded jellyfish. When my rep called me to 'brag' about these I had him fax me a picture. I called him back and laughed at him.)

Haha, those are more gay than Mr. Sulu!

Mr42, that is pretty cool. How did you secure the Lincolns to the chevys?

I'm not out to disguise it. Just make it look more unique. I've thought about taking the Olds wire loom and adapting it to the chevy vc's. Is the Rocket logo stamped into the loom or is it paint? Anyone know?

What year are those scripts? Early 60s?

It's stamped into the loom on the Olds covers...at least on the ones I have seen.

The Chevrolet script covers are even cooler chromed...I like them almost as much as the Corvette finned covers. Here's a picture (sorry the quality isn't too great.) The guy I bought these from said they came off of a '67 Camaro or Chevelle and were chrome from the factory.

A friend of mine ask me to keep my eyes open for a pair of 327 stock valve covers, the ones with the little square where the 327 and Horse Power rating decal went. I started to look at swap meets and found that they are scarce, I know that re-pops are available, but my friend wanted to weld breather tubes on them and send them out to be chromed, to be used on a 350 hp 327 in his 66 Chevy II. I am a believer, that more is not always better...........a couple of months back, Street Rodder featured an old school 32 roadster, dark blue, had leather interior and some lacing on the seats like a baseball glove........under the hood was a killer small block with these valve covers and Moon breathers mounted in the middle of the decal square. The covers were blue like the body and the breathers were polished. I liked the effect, I'm certain that everyone wouldn't, but at least its a thought. When I was a kid I probably junked 20 pairs of those ****ty valve covers!

Not unless the export model Camaros came with 283s. The 327 was the base V8 in the Camaro and it didn't come with script valvecovers. For some reason a lot of "restorers" are running them and thinking they're stock.

Just take a welder and find another set of covers you do think are cool (Lincoln, olds, chrysler firepower) and cut out the logo from the ones, take your plain ones, cut out a matching piece, weld in and ****, a million questions from people at the next show.

That's just it though... I'm not try to hide the fact that I'm running an sbc. I just am looking for somthing visually interesting and unique. Like the Y block vc's. They don't have a scipt and if they will fit like the Lincoln's that Mr42 built, then that is a cool option.

Sorry...I don't really know Camaros. I'm sure you are probably right. Maybe Chevelle/Malibu? I'm pretty sure you could get a '66-67 Malibu with a 283.

Not trying to hide anything. If someone cant tell that your small block chevy is NOT a chrysler hemi, then do you really care what they think? Lets say you put your sbc in a t-bird, then the thunderbird logo on your sbc valve cover is cool as hell. There were lots of options here. Take a bead roller, roll some flames in a flat piece of steel and then do what I said. Lots of guys sell metal stamp embossed bowties, ****, there ya go. On a post I had about grinding flames into metal, a few guys had used bead rollers to emboss panels, just cut that out and weld it on your cover.

Chad, I know what you are doing and can relate.

I collect obscure SBC valve covers simply because I love SBCs, but get tired of seeing the same old valve covers on everything.

I bought my favorite covers off the HAMB. They are finned aluminum with a very small smooth section in the middle that has a square font reading, "RPM". Soooo cool. I love them.

I don't think there is anything wrong with running something like Olds covers on an SBC as long as they are blank (no logos, scripts, etc...) and you aren't trying to fool anyone. Totally feel ya there.

That said, early chevy steel script valve covers are still a**** my favorites. I think an all black motor (block, heads, intake, etc...) would be RAD with some of these script covers - paint em black and do the script in an ivory...

I love that green SBC posted above. Very smart. Air cleaner is awesome.

In an issue of hop-up (the one with choppers burbank on the cover) theres a 5-window with a small block. He used olds valve covers without the loom, very cool look. I dont know if they were early or later model or if any "creative" fitting was required, but theyre the ones with the bumps on the top side.

I agree on both these points, and more. I don't mind backdating an SBC with something like Olds-style valve covers, but I feel that if you're going to run an SBC, run it with pride or don't run it at all. I'd very much like to build a Vortec 350 powered '53 Chevy with a set of no-logo Olds valvecovers, an oilbath aircleaner and Stovebolt Blue paint. Just because it would look like a 1953 Chevy V8.

The black motor/ivory script thing I've been planning for a long time. When I get my roadster built it's going to have black wheels, black motor, whitewalls and red bodywork. Sort of the anti-rat rod look! I also feel like the black motor and the right oil-bath will give the correct 1940s feeling to my '60s small block. I'm kinda thinking I'll use ram's horns and get them powdercoated to match the script.

  22. Django,
I've got nice chrome stock swirly script ones, like the ones that B*** posted a pic of, I'm looking for some finned ones, I'd happily swap ya if you have finned ones with straight bolt holes.

I always thought that a set of the "chevrolet" script covers would look good chromed and painted with only the script showing chrome. Subtle.

Another Idea would be to make the sbc look like a Yblock with valve covers and some of those rams horn manifolds from speedway. I think they look just like the Yblock ones. If you were gonna go the fakey route.

Cal Custom made some chrome valve covers, no holes in em, with about 6 shallow ribs stamped in along the length. very 60's.

I'm running Olds ones on the Lander just because it pisses people off. I like it when people pick your **** apart. If you don't like it, I guess you can do it better then.

I'm kind of an ***hole that way........well that, and I am too cheap to build an Olds motor.:D

  26. I wonder if some of the small block powered trucks had a different style rocker cover?

Might pay to take a look at some of those old flatbed and van style trucks.
