Does anyone know if there's any archives on the patterns for wood on these cars for 1940 and 1941 ? I am looking to put one together this year , I have most of a 41 now and am expecting delivery of 40 Woody remnants soon . I know they are slightly different and I know there is a fair amount of 1940 info . But I'm having a tuff time finding 41 info . Even interior pics of an original 41 would help a lot ! Any info will be appreciated ! Thanks
You have a rare bird wiilyscoupe. There are only six members that own Willys "woodies" listed in the National Woodie Clubs 2013 roster, and only one with a '40 and one with a '42 zero '41s. If you are a member of the NWC you can get their addresses and phone no. from the roster. Perhaps they are willing to send you pictures of their cars and make a decision on how your wood would look. Because they are so unique you could probably get away with a little "fudging", who's going to know! Is there a Willys club?
Is there a Willys club? There have been several, and currently still a couple. One of the older ones was Ron Ladley's, The West Coast Willys Club, and Mid America Willys Club. Most of them have gravitated towards the race cars (g***ers), but you still see the street rods, a few stockers, and the rare ones (Woodys, Converts, etc.) and the Aussies love them too...a couple clubs there, and many different models built by body companies over there. With the gl*** cars around too, one could say that the Willys have never been more popular. Some of the newer clubs also include Anglias, Austins and other rare g***ers. g-willys
Ya I'm a proud member of the WCWC and have learned a lot there . Great bunch of guys ! They even offered ***istance on a road trip gone bad . There's some good info on the 40 Woody out there and being that I will have one of each I'm hoping that will make things easier . But one at a time . I'll go back onto the National Woodie site and see what I can find , I think I already emailed them though ? Will dbl check . Thanks for the tip .
Just a thought, you might want to give Kline Family Workshop, 717-266-8696 a call. They advertise in the Woodie Times and are the best around as far as wood for our cars.
I want to see how this build progresses, so I'll subscribe. Think of a wooden wagon and make your own design. Like it says above, who is going to know?
I can't seem to find the roster you mention ? Maybe I need to be a paying member ? Do you have a link ? Or anything you can PM me ?
Ya Buzzard the true Willys guys will know if its not close . The Maynard 41 is a survivor but is now kept out of the public eye from what I've been told and it sounds like there's a couple 40 survivors . With these cars having their pics floating around it makes it a little easier to spot a fake . If I could find interior pics of a stock 41 I think I'd be set ! I've got good undercarriage shots of a 40 so that should help a bit ?
Shouldn't be long now before Guido (Weasel) sees this. If anybody has the pics you're looking for, it's him. Subscribed.
This will be a hard restoration without a doubt. I'm su****ious about a "survivor" that is kept out of the public eye simply for the fact that it is so hard to keep old wood from drying out and splitting. I'm curious as to how original Mr. Maynard's car actually is. With all that said, I understand your drive for originality. I have a car I decided to restore to original only after I flipped through the original repair book. My rational was that I wanted the pictures in that book to match my car and the repairs mentioned in the book to match the parts on the vehicle. You'll get there, but don't worry about what the Willys crowd will think. Your opinion is the only one that matters since its your money and your time that is being spent to restore it. I wish you the best in your journey.
Buzzard , thanks I'm sure it will take a while . I could blast the 40 Woody together first maybe and learn from it . The 40 will be a Hot Rod without a doubt but the 41 should remain a little closer to stock . Not sure when I'll start or how long it will take . I have asked Lee about the rear inners already though so who knows once the excitement kicks in !?! BrerHair , I expect Guido to jump in at some point but I've already messaged him on some of this and he knew when I was en route to getting the car and the fiasco bringing it home which could be a whole book of its own lol . Now trying to get one of these Willys running and driving is a whole other story cuz I can't seem to stay focused on just one at a time , they're all too cool !
Didn't Maynard have a black 41 Woodie also? I believe it was a street rod. It maybe in my Willys thread?
Found these pics doing a search. Have no idea how legit the car is but here it is. Removed pics- not even close.
Same car Steve , just a black n white pic . Guido knows who ended up with the black one and who built it when it was green , things slip my mind pretty quick if I don't right them down lol I used to know more about that car .
Hahahaha , seems any 41 pics are of Al's car and no others ? I have heard of a complete 41 Woody sitting in Mexico but it was a few yrs ago . If we could find another complete one like that then we could get all the 41's back together !
Hey SoCal , that red one parked next to guidos Sedan is nice ! But its a 40 , there's some differences between the 40 and 41 . Any 41 interior pics in your collection ?
