I'm looking for information on the Buck-Yoshida "C" cl*** lakester that ran at the Bonneville Nationals in 1953. Looking for any info I can find. Pics of the car, info about the driver/builders, info about the car, anything. Any help is appreciated. I ran across a couple trophys last weekend and one of them is for this car. It placed 1st in the 1954 Bonneville Nationals Speed Trials for the Lakester cl***. I would love to have a little more info about the car to preserve some of this history. Thank you all. Mac
drop Jimmy B a note. The man knows Bonneville history like no other http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/member.php?u=2572
Thanks for the tip, I'll get in touch with Jimmy B. WiredSpider, I'd love to see some pics if you got em? Mac
I looked at Hot Rod from '53 & '54 and the results are. 1953 qualifying speed. 'C' Lakester 1st Buck-Yoshida. Merc flathead 296ci - 196.38mph 2nd Sturdy-Xydias. Merc flathead 296ci - 195.97mph 1954 qualifying speed. 1st Neumayer-Reed bros. Merc. 215.18mph 2nd Buck-Blackman. Merc. 174.41 mph Record Neumayer-Reed 205.71mph Unfortunately I am awaiting 3 Bonneville programs to arrive '51, '52 & '54.
mistake in my original post- It took 1st place in 1953, not '54. Here are pics of the trophy's I recently acquired, which are causing me to search out more info on the cars these trophy's belong to. I believe this one to be from El Mirage? Thanks to everyone for any info you can provide! Mac
This was posted on the sprint car pic thread this morning by Jim Yoshida's son in law. He goes by hamb n egger on here. I would guess there would not be too many Yoshidas involved in motorsports, might be a lead for you. Jim would be the "James" on the hood.
Just a tidbit of an update here...as stated above by s55mercury66 Jim Yoshida was my father-in-law. He p***ed away in 2006 at age 86. I showed my wife Jamie the photo of the Buck & Yoshida trophy and she thought it familiar from her childhood as possibly being in a hutch that sat near the fireplace in her childhood home in Gardena. We are trying to make contact with an old family friend that can hopefully shed some light on the recently surfaced Bonneville inquiry that was made by Big Mac as we had never heard of Jim running on the salt. Hopefully Jimmy B and WiredSpider will have something additional to help in the identification of the car and owners/driver...Thank you, Gary & Jamie
The Russetta trophy was the final cl*** record trophy for the 1953 season in Cl*** B Streamliner. Most of the Streamliner entries then were drop tanks. Don Horner and Neal Buck set the 176.297 mph record at the Sept. 19/20 meet. They were members of the Screwdrivers club which was considered to be in Culver City. The Cl*** B Streamliner record was the fastest record at the Russetta meets in 1953.
I have a collection of photos covering 49-50-51-52 with programs for 49 & 51 but I cant figure out how to post them.
