    Hi
Looking for some help in making a decision on a k code 64 Fairlane,
I have a opportunity to pick up a original k code car that is pretty much complete the car is very soild and just about ready for it's new paint, I know this is a hard question to answer but what would be a fair Price?
79k original miles, engine will need going through as well as gear box etc, come to think about it the car needs to be put all back together.
    Thanks for any help.

  3. You looking to restore it, or just want a driver?

The K-code cars were all about the motor, with the rest of the car being pretty much standard Fairlane stuff except for the 9" rear. Different block, heads, intake, carb, etc, etc.... To be correct, it should be a 5-bolt block too. Trans will likely be a T10, but could be a rare toploader.

If it's lacking the original motor and all it's goodies, it's basically just a '64 Fairlane. Average value on a 'nice' K-code is around $12K, knock about 25% off for a non-original motor. All apart, needed going through, I personally wouldn't go more than half that. Top value on a 'perfect' restore is around $25K.

Hardtop or sedan ? Bucket seats or bench ? 4 speed or auto ? Makes a difference in price ....

  5. Make sure all the numbers are correct. Without the numbers, it might as well be a clone.

    Hi
Thanks so much to all of you,
Correct original numbers matching engine, gearbox, 9 inch rear with it's 3.89 gear.
4 speed t10, 5 bolt bell. The engine is still as is from when it was pulled, complete from cooling fan to clutch plate. Large pulley gen, starter, gold rocker covers and air cleaner etc.
All this still needs rebuilding but very complete. It is a bench seat car.
I think it is the hardtop, no pillar at the back edge of door.

    Thanks

1964 Fairlane "K" code is a rare one! Referred to as a "Baby Bolt" (the Thunderbolt being the 427 drag version).

Mustang "K" codes are HIGHLY collectible. Fairlanes and Falcon's are a lot less popular, but probably less survived.

As far as a price: keep in mind the GOLDEN RULE: "Anything is worth as much as somebody is willing to pay". For reference, A "K" code 4 speed '64 Fairlane as nice as you will find (concours restored) sold last Fall at auction for $61k. It looks like the kind of car that would cost $60k to restore LOL.

I am willing to bet that a "K" code Fairlane 4 speed POST (2 door sedan), would be worth MORE than the hardtop. Simply because passions fly when car guys see a "Factory drag car".

One last opinion...... basket cases are usually worth the sum total of the parts. They also present a challenge if anything is missing, or you have no idea how to CORRECTLY restore it and put it back together. Restorations are about correctness after all.

And price? It depends on your intentions. Is it your dream car? Spend what it takes. Are you going to flip it? Then try to buy it as cheap as possible.

    Hope that helps.

A good friend had hardtop K/4spd when we were seniors in HS. What a sleeper with black steel wheels, fun car. I'm a bowtie guy mostly, but I'd jump on a solid '64 Fairlane in a heartbeat.

  10. Is a "k" code a 271 h.p. motor?

    Yep. Except in a Mercury.

Thank you for the input, I pulled the trigger and am the proud owner of a 1964 Ford Fairlane K code. Now the fun begins. Question, how was the underside of the body finished from the factory?
    Thanks

  13. Congrats on the buy! Underside of the car..... black from the firewall forward, body color everywhere else.

When I had my 66 GTA Fairlane convertible, I was in the Fairlane Club of America. Also try Woodys site, lots of information.

    Try this http://www.woodyg.com/fairlane/farsale.html

$5K Car Description: For Sale: 64 Fairlane "K" Code Sport Coupe. Factory Black, with a White interior and 4.11 gears. Partial build sheet. Currently has a non-running 302 with a C-4 and an 8-inch rear. Rear seat is there, but no front seats or console. Has rust in the floors and trunk, but is definitely worth saving. Oregon
