HeavyChevyBoy- pick up a copy of "Chevrolet Inline Six-Cylinder Power Manual" by Leo Santucci. It mentions NHRA record holder Kevin Kirby in the late 90's in the Kay Sissell altered posting a 9.26 @154 mph 1/4 mile with a Chevy six. Totally over the top. I never really thought about it that much, but the old straight sixes had almost as many cubes as the small block 8's. Mike from M***.
How much better would the early Vettes sold if they had come with a 302 GMC and a stick, or even a 261, Or just a stick?
I stopped by Cotton's shop in Ringgold a few months back & he said the trail had gone cold & he was thinking of cloning the Nova. If you have later info I'd like to know. I ran a L/G VW powered Fiat in the late 70s & we were fierce competeters as well as good friends. I also told Cotton about this thread & he said he would try & check it out. He & his son are a force to be reckonded (sp) with in the late model dirt cars.
That's David Majors from Nashville Tn. The big # 1 on the car denotes NHRA World Champion. Sponsors Allied Bearings & Music City Rod Shop helped a lot of local racers.

"The Bare" was owned by my uncle Bob Duff in the mid 1960's. He owned it with Millard Byrd and Joe Johnson. Joe wound up with the car after them and it got off after that. It was originally built by **** Schroyer who I believe worked for a refrigeration company- the car had a lot of stainless work- firewall, etc. It had a tri-power setup with a stainless sheet metal ram air box, neat stuff. Bob had a green 51 Chevy g***er at the same time with a similar I6 setup, as well as a couple Willys g***ers with hemis. I've got another pic. of the Bare, I'll post it when I figure this thing out.
