OK, what if you cut the Chevrolet script outta these steel ones, and made a Olds Rocket-esque set of looms for you plug wires... yet they say Chevrolet instead of something it's not? That would be way rad IMO.

You could do some cool effects like painting the looms, detailing the script with a contrasting color, then put them over a pair of those $10 chrome steel smooth v-c's. Or maybe paint the v-c's and plate the looms?

I've been thinking about that too Slide. I was thinking about buying some of those fake Olds looms and seeing what I could come up with, but I don't know if they are steel or aluminum. But if I cut enough material out of the valve cover, then maybe I can just make my own loom from scratch.

On my 327 I run finned polished Aluminum covers and keeping them clean is a pain in the ***....I like the stock scripted Chevy valve covers....

Put a set of olds covers on and make the plug wire holders out of the Chevy covers. It'll look like the Olds covers, but have the Chevrolet script logo on the wire holders.

I dunno, I just did a quick search. They were at $13 and change with 11 minutes left to go.

There are plenty of valve covers out there from the 60's that look really cool. If anything make something like everyone has listed above. Case in point.....some guy (Boyd look alike) shows up every week in his coupe at the car show (obviously bought it) and has ford motorsport valve covers on the sbc in the coupe. Pretty gay but then again look who is driving it. He probably believes it is really a ford in his coupe.

Coolest set I saw was at Jefferson swap meet 2 or 3 years ago. The were off a Mercury Marine boat engine. Had MERCURY in script. Guy wanted $40 and I offered $20. (dummy) Never seen another set.

Now there is an interesting angle... so they were chevy valve covers rebranded mercury for boats. Hmm. What other boats came factory with small blocks? I know for certain of a '68 Chris Craft with a 283 in it, but I don't remember what the valve covers looked like.

I've had a pair of script ones knocking around for years. I think they were on a 327 that I bought for the '29 tub I had.
I was gonna give 'em away but I think I've now changed my mind (sorry Bryan, blame these guys). They might look good on my '57 Chevy project. Black with white lettering?.....cool idea.

Couple of interesting items - (1) Mercury Marine also made real cool finned aluminum oil pans for small block Chevys.
    (2) I'm kicking my own **** for selling a pair of scipt Pontiac valve covers for a small block Chevy - In Canada, back in the 60's most Pontiacs were really just Chevies with the Indian tin. - no big rear ends, no heavy duty front suspension etc. just the Chevy stuff all wrapped up to look like a Poncho. If anyone knows of a set of these I'd be standing in line to get them. I think 60 Pontiacs had them.

I orig****ly built this back in the late 60's with a 392 Hemi / 6 Duces / and a TroqFlite behind all that. Through the years the engine came out and a small block Chevy went in. But ever sence, I still wanted a Hemi back in it. I re-built this ride back in 2001 for the T-Bucket Nationals in Omaha. The cost for a Hemi this days is unreal for a car that's over 40 years old. So, I did the next best thing and made that Chemi Valve Cover Convertion. When I'm driving it, it looks and feels like a Hemi and most pople think it's a Hemi. Come on get creative, you all.

Now!! hre's my other real Hemi project I just finished, a real H.A.M.B.'ers ride.

I know that alot of Chris Crafts ran Studebaker drivelines and that Studebaker ran 283 Chevs in some models for years that I'm not sure of.

How 'bout that Studebaker 283 covers, but they would have the staggered bolts, wouldn't they?

How's that for uncertainty??.........I'm not even certain about my uncertainty!:D

Studebaker used a GM engine in 1965/6 only.
    However...
The Studebaker V-8 valve cover will bolt on a GenV small block without any adapters.

While we're talking about it, throw a curve in here...what clears roller rockers and what doesn't?? Not full on race **** with foot tall studs and stud girdles etc, but just a nice set of Crane or Harland Sharps.

Do the stamped Chevrolet script covers clear? Corvette aluminum? Anybody know? The stamped covers are the first choice for my pickup, the Corvettes are a fairly close second, with i guess either Eelco or early Cal Customs being a distant third.

No, the factory script and Corvette aluminum will not cover even roller tip rockers. but you can use a spacer - I think mine are 3/16 flat aluminum with gaskets on each side. (It's been a while since I whittled them)

If you know anyone good with a TIG you can put a old cambels soup can in the middle of them, or anything else you want.

Wow, I'm suprised you couldn't get away with a roller tip type. Oh well, guess it's time to mill some spacers. I have some 1/4" aluminum plate that's not doing anything else.
