Carb.

Hi All
I just bought a air maze from Mac auto parts for my model A pick up it has a Zenith Carb. and if fit's way to loose does any one know if there is a rubber bushing or something to seal it up or did i miss something i should have got to go with it i looked 2 time and i don't see a thing available i need to get some kind of a filter on Carb. ?
The part number i got is A9600

sounds like you are working on a stock "A", and not too many of those on HAMB. Maybe this bump will get somebody to see this who knows of a forum for "A"s to recommend to you.
In years gone by I had a couple model "A"s, but they didn't have air cleaner, IIRC.

 

Often you can cut a strip from an inner tube that no longer will hold air (Dad wouldn't let me throw anything away ).

Jon, I,m trying my best to remember one, but I owned 2 Model "A"s and was involved in work on many others with friends, and I can't recall an air filter on any of them,???????

To the best of my knowledge, Ford did not furnish an air cleaner on the Model Air. The "Air Maze" is an aftermarket unit.

Of course, Ford was not the only company to not furnish an air cleaner during this period. Many carburetors had nothing, some had flame arresters, and a very few had centrifugal air cleaners.

The centrifugal air cleaner looked like a tomato can with louvers on the end that was supposed to throw the dirt to the side, where it would then fall to the bottom and fall out a hole in the bottom. VERY SUCCESSFUL in filtering out small birds and large grasshoppers!

By the early 1930's, similar technology was used, but horsehair was stuffed inside. One was supposed to weekly clean the horsehair with gasoline, then after the gasoline dried, soak the horsehair in oil. The dirt would stick to the oily surface. This actually worked after a fashion.
