Any other Austin A40 owners on here?

So after 7 years, is your A40 PU finished?

 

Now that's a nice little investment for the future.

 

I am not sure, I sold it shortly after I posted pics of it outside. I went to something bigger.

 

I have a A40 4 door , been on my to do list . But to many other projects have butted in line. I am thinking I should sell it to one of you young guys. Leon

 

I bought this one for a project, but don't know which way the build will go, so I haven't started a build tread as yet. May not end up H.A.M.B. friendly, you know?

 

Here's my Dorset. Project has been on hold for a number of years. Time to get going again here real soon on it. 2x3 chassis with a arm front (one offs) narrowed Pinto rack, 9" with triangulated 4bar and coilovers. Setup for SBC/TH (going to switch to PG though). Planing on 10-12 pt cage with FC hoop. Thinking injected 406 for power. Nice clean consistent bracket car.

Would love to trade though for a similar shape/stage tube axle A40 Dorset or PU.

I don't have one but my g/f wants an A38 Wagon. What do they run for suspension? full parallel leaf rear? (unlike the Hillman), coils front? and are the full framed?.

 

Looking for a stock frame if anyone knows of one available on the east coast.

I love it too ! My parents had one all throughout my childhood, same year, make, and model; even the same color. When I bought it and had it delivered, opening the door and smelling the interior just flooded me with memories long forgotten.

It's a 1958 Austin A35.

Since first posting, I've picked up an early Ford engine and four speed transmission, along with a narrowed Ford 8 inch rear end for it. I guess that it WILL end up being somewhat H.A.M.B. friendly after all, but I don't think that I'll be able to turn it into a real full-on Gasser. Kinda depends on what I can gather up extra to spend on it, you know?

Okay, I don't have one of these.... Yet. But I have to say that an A40 is high on my list of serious wants. Ever since the issue of Rodder's journal with the Oddy car came out, this picture has made feel strange yearnings... Really strange even more so, 'cause I'm not a "gasser guy", I usually like stuff low and able to corner hard.

I have an A-40 pick-up powered by a MGB 1800cc twin carb motor attached to the original trans and then a s-10 diff. works great, lots of fun and low expense!:

Cool Austin PU, If you've owned the truck for a number of years then you're the guy that gave me a Flying A hat pin at the Thompson Gasser Reunion in 2004............small world eh!!
I was visiting from England at the time and John Cassiol introduced us.

Yep ! I'm the guy. I still keep those pins on-hand for Austin owners I meet. Great hearing from you and yes, it certainly is a small world. I live in western Pennsylvania
and try to make all of the nostalgic race/car shows. (The Austin is driven to these events.)

Well 5 years later starting to make progress, building to run in the Gasser circus in UK. Chassis is now built with 40" ladder bars to 9" on coilovers, 40" wide tube axle being made over xmas as original willys too wide. Found that my Pontiac engine has water damage to bores but scored another freshly machined block, and a blower. Got a build thread going on UK NSRA site

Heres a pic of my near niegbors Austin somerset, been given the classic UK hotrod treatment with a Rover ( Buick 215" ) V8 and a Jaguar back axle. Also has a steel flip front.

 

My '50 A40 Devon project. BBC/4spd

 

I picked up a 52 a40 LHD pickup a few months back. It just may be next in line to build.
