so...I thought I would throw this out there to see if anyone had any ideas...I mostly work on 50's sports cars...lots of MG's, Allards, morgans and so forth...I know what winters, frankland, halibrand type rears look like...I just bought a old 47 MG TC that came out to the east coast sometime in the 60's and has been sitting around ever since...had been run west coast in the 40's and 50's with a V8-60, in/out box and a funky looking qc rear...the unit is aluminum, but has fins running from front to back on the top of it as well as on the bottom of it...no names anywhere on the outside of it...it looks smaller than a halibrand unit, and much smaller than a Frankland Champ unit I have in my 27 lakes rdstr...I will be picking the car up monday and will try to post some pics of it then...anyone got any ideas?...one guy mentioned that maybe Ken Miles had something to do with it?...Thanks...Mike
Give me a few minutes I will get a pic up of a 3/4 rear I have. Smaller than a V8 and fins like you described.
3/4 rear I picked up from Hemisteve on the HAMB. Made by Al Davis and uses Crosley internals if I remember right. This unit has fins like you described and is smaller than my HB201
hmmmm...nope...the fins on my rear go from the input nose all the way to the back cover...if I remember correctly, there are 3 or 4 of them...front to back on the top side as well as the bottom side...
and the back cover has fins running top to bottom...once I get the car, I can get a bolt count for the back cover as well as the side bells and diameters of everything....
several folks have mentioned it might be either a cyclone rear or a Pat Warren...looking up both names and I found 1 pic of each and neither looks like this rear...does anyone have any pics of a Pat warren Rear?...
This will be interesting. I don't recall ever seeing a QC like the one described. Can't wait for pictures. Frank
Heres a link to a Pat Warren add. As you can see on this add, only the biggest unit has the ribbing described by the OP. Highly unlikely behind a V8-60. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=1895645&d=1364130799
