I had a full box of norton 6" da s.p on my bench and want to start stripping the previous owners gray primer cause it was thin in some areas.I had my deck lid on my work area and when i started sanding the discs went flying off!.Went to the auto body supply place and found out they dont carry 3M feathering disc adhesive.EVERYBODY USES PSA SANPAPER he says.So i told him my dilemma and went to LOWES and got a can of 3m 77 spray adhesive works like a charm. Thanks for the tip CHOPPED OLDS!
Been there. Get a bottle of Goo Gone because the sandpaper won't come off cleanly every time and you'll need a way to occasionally remove the buildup.
Ummm that person would be right...in the good old days you spent Friday afternoon with some lighter fluid and your lighter softening the adhesive and s****ing it off for Monday morning. We did away with non PSA abrasives about 10 years ago and featherdisk adhesive about 5 years ago. Today time is money in the collision industry...labor times are tight and shops and techs need to be productive as possible in order to be profitable
What I do when it won't stick is just clean the back of the disk with a clean rag soaked with lacquer thinner it usually works.
Take a lighter and heat the adhesive side to renew the glue.I did that yesterday to the double-sided adhesive for auto trim and it worked great. I've heard that microwaving tape or in this case, adhesive discs will make the stickem work better-never tried it tho?
A little trim adhesive will do the trick. Either the tube or spray. Don't use too much and remember to take disc off when done for the day.
Don't know if it'll work on discs, but when you have an old dried up roll of masking tape,15-20 seconds in the microwave fixes those
I bought a BUNCH of sandpaper, various grits, about 20 boxes, all without adhesive. I spray it with Lock***e spray adhesive. Works as well as 3M for 1/3 the price, available at your local Wally World.
