Well my uncle gave me this car, its a rolling chassis. Engine and trans installed, rear end, brakes and brake lines...The body is at the shop and should be done in a few days.

Its an original all steel '27 model T body, the frame is a sac 32 frame made to fit the T body, it'll be a highboy.

I have every single part to finish this car in boxes, most is all brand new. The only thing I dont have is a drive shaft.

My question is, where do I start and what would you do next? I dont have the body but Im sure I can get other stuff done before the body goes on the frame. Sometimes I get carried away and want to do whatever makes the car look finished, even though other things should be done first. I want to do this the right way, just not sure on the process of doing it right and what I can start on now.

    Thanks
    Bryan

First thing I would do is spend the next year or so kissing your Uncle's ass for giving you the gift of a lifetime (outside of an organ donation). :)

  3. Man,I couldn't agree more...is that a Hemi? HRP

Holy cow!!! I think I could use an uncle like your's....

Congrats on the car and good luck with the project, keep us all posted with updates

  5. Lucky fella. But that's an A frame , not a 32.;)

I'm sorry, I was mistaken on that. Let me see if I can get this right... It was built by sac hotrods, it's an A frame that was narrowed a hair in a spot or two to accommodate the T body. And it will be a highboy, that's where I was getting the 32 mixed up. Anyways I think that's the right specs, maybe not though

And trust me when I say I am very grateful. I know I would have never been able to get an original 27 on my income. I knew it was coming my way via his will, but he decided my 30th birthday would be a better time to give it to me and be able to watch me enjoy it

  7. you say the frame has been made to accommodate the T body , but has it actually been fitted to it? body mounting holes? steering column , gas/brake pedals , floorboards ,shifter , seats etc fitted? you may want to check and start there

First thing you've got to do is learn to post bigger pictures and lots of them! :D Definitly take your time and think things through. Get Mike Bishops book on how to build an AV8. It's a step by step on putting together an early Ford. Lots of helpful stuff in there. Congrats on a great start!

Looks like a 331... I'll trade you a 392 timing cover for that one?

jimbanner, about 320 pm on the 7th day, HE created the small block CHEVY, then shelved it for a few decades in order to let FOMOCO think it really had something. HE knew that all Hell would break loose when everybody realized just HOW GREAT THOU ART. I surely hope Ryan is on extended vacation.

The body has been fitted to frame. He spent a pretty penny having the body put together and on the frame, making sure all the panels lined up perfectly, then all the body work was done and is being painted.

So yes, the body has been fitted and mounted to the frame.

As for the other stuff you mentioned, floor boards, steering column and shifter, I think It would be easier to have the body on the car before I started on that stuff, but I'm sure you know better than me

ok heres some more pics, and questions.

I still dont have the body yet, but want to get a few things done beforehand.

As far as the clutch linkage goes, and the shifter linkage....

I assume the gold color bar that comes out of the torque converter area is for the clutch linkage to connect to, but I can engage/disengage that by hand without any pressure, as in moving it back and forth. When depressing the clutch pedal, where does that spring/tortion come from? I always thought that was a spring inside the actual clutch. Is it an external spring? If you guys have any close up pics of some easy linkage setups that would be nice.

I hope at least some of that question made sense.

    Go Chargers!

And if I want to use this thread as a "Build Thread", am I in the right section or do I need to go somewhere else? Thanks again guys

Ok let me simplify that question and hopefully get some answers.

Right now I have the clutch fork, which is very easy to engage and disengage clutch with, and I have a clutch pedal. What sort of spring assembly am I missing in between? I wanted to do some mechanical linkage and keep it as simple as possible. Thanks

i say get together with your uncle and continue on the path he has chosen on this build. it looks like he knew what he was doing. he can steer you in the right direction and teach you a thing or two. it will be like a father/son project, fun and informative at the same time.
and since you are having a hand in the build, it might help down the line if a problem does arise, it might give you an idea why things acted the way they did, how to troubleshoot and correct any problem.
ask questions and learn why he chose certain parts and methods. then you might be able to use the knowledge you have gained to build cars on your own and some day, with your own child or nephew.

  22. You said it was all there, except drive shaft. Id go get one. Any engineering shop should be able to make you one, and it shouldnt cost much.

I was hoping someone might be able to tell me the size/width of these wheels and tires? I'd appreciate it. I love this look on a roadster.

    Thanks

  24. Looks to me like '35 Ford wires - 16" diameter, 4" width. Tires look like 5.00-16s on the front and 7.00-16s on the back

Thanks. So you think the rear are only 4" width as well? I really like this setup, but if you think the fronts are 5.00 and rears are 7.00, maybe it's just the angle. Do you think 6.00 on front and 7.00 rear would look ok? I've got a model t on a A frame, but it sits pretty similar to this car, which I believe is sitting on 32 rails.

Right now my car has street rod/Boyd type wheels on it and I'm not a fan. My uncle spent a pretty penny on them, but I'm into the steelies or spokes with a little bit of a narrower, larger tire.

And where can I find some 16x4 black steel rims? I've been looking online for a while and can't seem to find that size anywhere. I'd like to find the plain black ones (pictured below), and then have the option to put the chrome hum and trim ring on later on.

    Thanks

  28. '35 wires were all 16x4". You'll need to check swap meets, ebay, or the classifieds here to find them.

Your best bet as you're starting out is to read, read, read, then read some more. When you're done doing that, read again then read a little more. Then repeat - twenty times.

There's tons of info here on just about every subject needed to build a safe, traditional, and good looking roadster...just read.

(if you're looking for info on a specific subject, do a google search by typing site:www.jalopyjournal.com and then your search term)

Ok so I'm getting ready to do my clutch linkage tomorrow, but I wanted to clear one thing up before I start welding.

Silly question to most of you....but I just want to be sure

So the clutch fork, I want to make sure I have the position correctly.

When I press in the clutch, to shift gears, what should the clutch fork/clutch look like? Picture 1 or 2

It was obvious to me at first, then I started second guessing my limited knowledge
