Buddy came over tonight and tore into the motor for the digger to see what it was like inside and boy were we surprised this thing is like brand new inside. This thing was supposed to be a running recently overhauled motor and much to our surprise it actually was what the guy buddy got it from said it was so with a cam change and some new gaskets we are gonna put it back together and run it however we have to change valve springs and will probly add a main girdle just for some added strength to the bottom end being it only has 3 main bearings. Stay tuned more to come gotta get some parts ordered before we go back together

Good to see Randy, most of the time ,Just overhauled means 20 years ago:eek: and running means ( well it still turns over with a breaker bar):D,,,,, Tim Jones

  8. Well, that is just awesome! Are you going to take a grinder to the ports :D - or just throw the huffer on it and push it through? I think with just a day of port work, you could dramatically improve flow . . . but that would probably require a valve job afterwards (always does).

Or - drop the cam in, throw some gaskets on it and run the sucker!

PS: I'll be back in the barn this weekend on the distributor machine - got side-lined a bit working on the mag setup for the FlatCad and cleaning the shop up. I'll spin up the Vertex this weekend and send it your way.

Tim I know most of the time someone says it ran when they took it put means it ran when it was new from the factory lmao.

Carl it's rare we get lucky like this and how do you know it ain't clean living we are all angels who do no wrong lmao

Dale buddy and I decided we are just gonna gasket match the ports for now change the cam and maybe a main girdle then dyno it to see what can be done on a real low budget then work our way up from there

Great thread, guys. You know how to stir up a dormant guy's blood - lol
Please give me a little more info on the mag specs you are going to go with specific to the Flathead Caddy - it doesn't react like a SBC, so I am curious on what your experience with Flattcad motor has given you. Also, what are you doing about the base - I would like some more info on that.

<!-- message -->The FlatCad crew is looking for some good ole' fashioned HAMB support!

We'd sure like you to register and vote for the FlatCad coupe in the Champion Spark Plugs 'Search for a Champion' contest that starts tomorrow. Lets be honest, we could use the money to help us be the first flathead powered competition coupe to go over 200 at Bonneville. The world needs more things 'flat' that breathe fire, make noise, haul ass and excite the masses - and we plan on delivering just that!

Our Entry: - you can vote once a day, so do :D

Dates: January 6th - February 2 . . . if we make it to a Top 15 finalist, we'll be begging for more support. :)

    http://alwaysachampion.com/search-fo...4#.Usltv_RDtuJ

Voting Registration: - Yes, you have to register, not a big deal . . . its the 'rules'

    https://alwaysachampion.com/search-f...register/voter

Purpose: We'd like to show Champion and the entire racing community that a traditional, totally bad-ass engine stuffed in what once was Dad's old 'grocery getter' coupe, built buy a talented team of average guys . . . who all came together on the HAMB - is exactly what they should care about and WANT to sponsor. Why the hell not?

So hey gang, check it out . . . we appreciate all the support you've given us over the years!

    Thank You!

First, I want to thank everyone for all of the support! We've received a tremendous amount of support up to this point, and for that, I'm very thankful!

Now, I need to ask for even MORE support. # days into the contest, and we stand at 28th. We need to be in the top 15.

Please, vote as often as you can, daily if possible. If you have time, please share the link and encourage your family and friends to vote too!

    See you on the salt!

  18. BEST OF LUCK i don't like joining things i did and voted.

I REALLY appreciate all of the help and support we are getting! A week into the contest, and we are running 25th, so we have some work to do still.

One more time I must ask you to share the link with all your friends, and encourage them to participate. I know we can do this, but it won't be easy!

    Thanks again!

Thanks to everyone's diligence and perseverance, we have moved into the 20th spot!

If everyone who is currently voting could send this link to all of their friends, we could take this straight to the top!

    Here is the link:http://alwaysachampion.com/search-for-a.../entry/1568064

If everyone who is currently voting could just convince one other person to vote through Feb. 2, we could take this straight to the top!

.....And if you're reading this and not voting, PLEASE VOTE! Your vote really DOES make a difference!

    Thanks again, everyone!

  25. Come on HAMBers - we need to get to #15 . . . give us a much needed hand!

You'll want to run a Cad/LaSalle floorshift or sideshift behind that brute - I've got a couple of both, if you're interested. Also a flat Cad out of '38 60 Special - badly weathered, but has crank, rods, pistons, etc. I'm in Paris ON Canada. 519.442.1143. Reply to flatheadquarters@rogers.com. Bill Halpenny
