I have this old 3X2 intake I bought from a old guy that couldn't even remember how long it sat on the shelf in his shop. I have looked and have failed to see a manufacture mark on it anywhere. I have compared it to many other old intakes out there and can't find a match. I know there are some real experts on here with vintage speed equipment so please help me. Thanks.
Have you taken the carbs off? Need better images. All three carb air horns are missing the air cleaner cross brace (broken)
It has no markings on it at all and no evidence anything has ever been ground off. It is as it was cast.
I think I may have found it just now in some of my old magazines. It appears to be a offenhauser 5254 intake but has no markings on it. Is there any chance that offy made any off these for gm without the name cast on them?
The runners say Offenhauser all day long just by their shape, wish I would have seen this thread earlier to help out.
Is it possible it was smoothed out. If it was on a race car maybe he didn't want anyone to know what he was running.
The round circular flat spot near the middle carb sometimes have the "O"in their font, the first letter of Offenhauser, cast into them.
So no markings at all stumps me. Does anyone know the years this intake was cast? Thanks for all the help guys.
it is pretty easy to remove castings that are raised, then sanded, media blasted to make it uniform with the rest of the intake
I think Swade41 nailed it....I am betting this is it and I think from one of the pics you posted, you can see where the "O" once was, in the center, does look to have been ground down imho
That looks like it. Looks like the mystery is solved. Would still like to know what years these were made.
On some of my old Offenhauser intakes the number is stamped on the bottom heat crossover area. If there is a letter along with the number it will indicate what series and approx year. They started coming out in late 55, but only with small bolt pattern.
The 5254 is the small runner Offy intake made for 265, 283, and early 327, the later 3558 is the best with larger runners.
Check with Dan "the man" at Exeter Auto here on the Hamb. He is the man to go to for your Offenhauser specific information as well as Offy products. He is also an Alliance vendor.
