I have a set of 1953 Cadillac sabre wheels I bought for my 46 Cadillac and would like to rebuild them. The outer rim is steel while the center section is aluminum riveted like a conventional wheel. I know the procedure is to drill out the rivets and powder coat the steel rim and re chrome the aluminum center section. My problem is that I can't find anyone to re rivet the center section back to the steel rim. I read of a company in LA that does this service a few years ago and they wanted $1000.00 exchange for each wheel. Has anyone ever re riveted a wheel before or know of anyone that does this service, Wash. or Ore. states preferred.

    Thanks

Before drilling out those.. take a wheel to a Aircraft shop where they rebuild Airplanes.. they have what might be needed to make it work..

I was told that I would need a 20 plus ton press to press the centers out of the wheel once I removed the rivets. I would also need to mark the two pieces as not to get them mixed up. Don't try and separate the two parts without a press as this will ruin the wheels. I was told that people had brought wheels to him that were hammered apart and they were just junk now.
The hard part in restoring these wheels is getting the chrome to flow in between the fins. The guy I talked to said he had a special anode built to fix this problem. There is also the usual in filling pits and curb rash.
He told me that if I sent him the wheels after they were ready to be pressed back together, the cost would be $150.00 per wheel ( pressed together and riveted.)
I was also cautioned that if I had the center section rechromed, there could not be any chrome on the edge where the wheel presses into the outer steel rim because the thickness of the chrome would not allow the wheel centers enough clearance to press in.

The other option is for him to do everything and its $800.00 per wheel plus shipping both ways to Las Angeles, Cal.

I can't remember the name of the shop but he does wheel restorations and repair on
    concourse type cl***ic cars.

Located in Las Angeles and Phone number is 818-785-7237
