Thanks for all the responses. I bought a policy yesterday. Very easy to deal with. The only unusual things they asked of me were my wife's info, even though she has no desire to drive the car, some info about the policy for my daily driver, and a few pictures. Only $200 a year.

Thats because they won't insure you unless each of the adults in the home have a newer daily driver... must be 15 years old or newer (can't remember his exact number) They don't want you using a classic as any sort of regular transportation even with regular plates and insurance.

It was explained to me by the Hagerty agent that if my regular ride broke down I "would be tempted to use my classic as a daily driver". I went through this while trying to get antique insurance on my 36 chevy with my daily driver being a '61 falcon with regular plates.

I wanted to tell him the reason the falcon had become my daily driver was that I sold my 2005 POS because it kept breaking down.

If you're reading this Hagerty, my '61 has never left me stranded be it 105 degrees or motoring through a foot of unplowed snow. It is the most reliable car in my fleet.

Have 2 cars insured with Haggerty. Only claim I've had was for roadside assistance with my enclosed trailer carrying one of the cars. Haggerty got me a flatbed semi trailer tow for the whole she-bang, was very pleased with service. They have always been great to deal with.

Do you think insurance companys treat Michigan different because of the 'no fault insurance' requirements? Man insurance is expensive in Michigan - one of the worst in the US! Aren't they supposed to change the requirements there? What classic car insurance do you Mich HAMBrs like to use?

  5. ..Classic car insurers have to charge you for the mandatory "Michigan catastrophic claims" on your classic. (If you live in Michigan) On your daily driver, it's $186. per vehicle. If you have historic or year of manufacturer plates on your classic...they will only charge you
    20% of that..which is about $37 extra...

Not when they're raking in the $$$. Insurance and Legislature in MI are more than in bed together, they're freakin' siamese twins.

I just insure my cars with regular insurance... a gamble if an accident happens but darned if i'll go buy and insure a newer car just so I can get classic car insurance.

What really cooks me is that Hagerty ran a PR stunt: 365 days driving a Model A. If you watch the videos on youtube you can see the car has a standard MI plate (correct for a daily driver)... same as mine. So its ok for Hagerty to drive an even older ride around as daily transport but not me.

Their company, their rules. I just won't be helping their name along if asked my opinion.
