I have seen this mentioned on a few threads now and I have checked out thier website.
It sounds like all you need is a gm tps and a o2 sensor and you can put it on anything, even a modified 97.
Has any hamber used this diy fuel injection system. If so what are your thoughts on it?

I built the box for it a couple years ago, but I can't bring myself to actually install it on anything...

In addition to the sensors, you need the injectors and the associated high pressure fuel system, and you also need to do quite a bit of tuning.

Building the harness and the inj. system dosen't bother me. As far as the tuning I think that once the intial tune is in the tweeking would be easier than tuning a carb. and be weather and boost freindly.

How was the build. I have some experiance years ago with electronic projects with my dad (he is a ham amature radio operator).
Is it a common sense build or do I have to know electronic theory.

I know some electronics theory, which might have helped, but mostly it just requires that you have some technical electronics experience (which I have too, I got my first hot solder burn at age 10). If you've built a Heathkit or made something electronic from a magazine article you should be able to handle it fine. If not, then you might have some learning to do but still it's not rocket science.

I've done the Mega Squirt a couple of times... I've used throttle body injectors with good success. And it's gotten easier over the last couple of years as the software has gotten better... I probably won't build the box again as it's cheap enough to buy one built and tested and I don't have a whole lot of time these days... Their forums and mail list are really good for support and getting things set up correctly...

They even have software now that helps with the tuning.Tuning can be done with a lap top,or a Palm type device, using the free software.

You will also need a coolant temperature sensor, and an intake air temperature sensor.Easy to get production GM pieces. Then you have to figure out
where and how to mount your injectors, and make a fuel rail.An extra
return line to the fuel tank would be a good idea.Mounting an electric fuel pump shouldn't be a problem. The hard part is hiding the modern looking injectors,if you chose to do so.

If you read the instructions for assembling the Megasquirt box, they check various voltages etc every couple steps along the assembly process,so you can't go too far wrong. With a digital ohm/volt meter it shouldn't be a problem.

I figure the early hotrodding pioneers would have been all over EFI,given the chance.

  9. go check out the guys/gals over at Turbobricks.com they have been into the megasquirt and spark for about 2 years now and a very large percentage of the members are using it, there is a wealth of knowledge there if you search for it
