I have a good start on one but it will take time.

Plans are for Ford power, satin burgundy paint and on the ground stance.

I would agree, aerocolor. As much as we like to romanticize the post war period, I think my photo above shows that a lot of these cars were adorned with quite a bit of "stuff" like full grille and bumper guards, spotlights, etc. that may have exemplified the times but may not have been all that appealing. After all, they were daily transportation and many had seen a number of yrs. of hard use by this time..................Oh, and I forgot those crazy Cord style exhaust pipes!!

Rik hovings site has a folder of 38 ford customs built in the 40's/50's, but for some reason the hamb won't let me post pics from my phone. There isn't a lot of them to choose from and they are mostly convertibles

    To me, Corey nailed it!
Saw it in person at TRJ meet in Baltimore, and it's perfection.
    Well, in my opinion naturally.

.......I think they might actually be aftermarket VW items. I have a similar pair that were on my '40 Ford Coupe when I got it.

It was from a company that made different style nerf bars and bumpers. nothing to do with Vw's. They were in to customs. found them tru google

I've had my 1939 Tudor for a number of years. I love the art-deco lines. It's not finished; but I'm having too much fun driving it.

I remember when you couldn't give these models away. I remember when people would put 1940 front clips on 39 standards to repair or create 1940 Deluxe cars. In 1999 on the powertour who wanted to see the modifications on my standard sedan. Most had similar 38 and 39 projects.

  24. "art-deco lines"................That is the term I have been looking for, thanks.

Because of depression, the auto industry had to really compete in the shrinking market place. I believe the best eye-catcbing auto designs came out in the mid to late 30's. For a while after World War II, cars became for the most part basic forms of family transportation. After the Korean War the auto industry stretched their imaginations again. I come from an auto industry family. Cars have been a big part of my life. One year at the Straykat 500 we were able to line up a line of 37 to 40 sedans ( standard and deluxe ) in a row so people could see the progression of design differences.

  26. I would like to see THAT picture............

I'm sure someone took some shots. I participated in a parade ( rare for me ) in Harrisonville, MO. about 6 years ago. Part of the parade had a collection of cl***ic automobiles starting with the oldest to the newest. We were lined up by make and year. I'll strive to find a shot of the ***embled Fords.
