Hi, we built a fresh 261 for a friend of mine (48 Chevy 3600). It runs just fine and pulls like a bunch of buffaloes. But I am a little worried about oil pressure. This is already a pressure oiler engine (I think a 56 block) which we converted to a full flow oil filter. Oil pressure never drops below 15psi in hot idle neither (and idle is Looooow on this one). But it also never goes beyonf 30psi when reving it up. Is that where the pressure relieve spring should be set to? Or is that too weak and we need to shim or replace the spring? Oil pressure is measured in the main oil gallery. Greets Flo
It sounds good to me. Could be a little bit on the low side but not bad. If it bothers you, you could shim the oil pressure relief spring.
The 261 is a great engine, good luck! You could check with Tom Langdon on his website. He is most knowledgeable on the Chevy sixes and always willing to help. don
FYI, The new website is www.langdonsstovebolt.com We had SEVERAL calls today with people looking for the site as the old one no longer exists. Also, his email is info@langdonsstovebolt.com. Tom does NOT do computers, so he is not on these forums. But, we do have him do his emails
