I have a small 18" x 3.5" extinguisher that is empty. Its thick aluminum. The possibilities are endless. It would be really easy to polish once the paint were stripped. First thought is a radiator overflow tank. I could cut the top off and use the bottom for a....beer chiller! I could use the coned end for... velocity stack tail light housing gauge pod
coil cover....fuel cool can.....mini tool box.....registration container.....I admit radiator overflow was my first thought
When I get around to it, I want to figure out how to turn mine into an air tank for the bags on our Panel. I also like the idea of turning into some super secret storage compartment somehow.
Coolant overflow/recovery bottle. Vacuum reservoir cannister, necessity for cars with vacuum wipers. Oil tank. Acetone injector tank? Cut and make a "lid" out of the top and use it for a glovebox for reg, small items? Cut the end off and use it for a mount for a slightly smaller diameter fire extinguisher? Mount it on your work bench to use as a rolling form for bending nerf bars and tube grills around, etc.
I use one of them as a foot rest in my speedster. I have a 4" seat suicide for the p***enger so i mounted one as a foot rest.
I have a vintage br*** fire extinguisher bolted to the floor of the 40.. its a pyrene heavy vehicle type.. like this and even though it says not to... I put water in it.. the *****in thing is it "dual ACTION" and squirts when pushing or pulling... (um that doesnt sound right) anyhow.. Long story short.. TOKYO and inkorect will both attest to its usefulness as a water pistol... OH and on long drives its positioned in such away that my foot rests against it..
I used two small br*** ones for gas tanks on a chopper years ago (1971).One on each side of the frame.
I have used the steel ones for a recess on the firewall for the dist. Cut it in half or in thirds and weld it to your firewall fits a sbc nice. Mel
Holy ****, sawzall, I just bought this one at a garage sale this morning! HIGHLY polished, no holder though. Thought it was cool for $10. IF I can get it open I want to use it on my chop to hide all the wiring and maybe put an ignition switch somewhere.
Anyone know if the top is soldered on? Can I just heat it a bit with a propane torch and pull it off? Hopefully it won't discolor the br*** too much?
step one, mount under your dash or on a kick board so it looks like a usable fire extinsquesire. use that kind of mount and everything step two, bolt that ******* on so no one rips it out when your car catches on fire and messes your sneaky little trip up step three, cut the bottom end out step four, find or make a ring of metal with the same outside diameter as the inside diameter of the canister. thread it and weld it into the canister step five, make a ring that screws into the ring you just welded into the canister and weld a flat disc to the bottom on it so when you screw it into the canister you cant tell its there...might want to weld on a nut or make a hex indention in it so when it gets tight you can get it off ---note: it should only like 1 1/2 times to close, not like 8,000 spins step six cut a square hole in the side of the canister towards the top on the side when bolted to the holder wont show, make it the same size as a quick disconect wiring block step seven weld a flat plate to the peice that screws into the canister--90 deg to the flat disc step eight asemble your fuse panel and wire a small length of wire to each line and wire to a quick disconect---make line line enough to twist a few times and not rip itsself out step nine bolt it to the flat plat in step seven step 10 stick the disconect in the square hole from step 6 and secure with an alpha clip or something similar so it wont go anywere. but it is easly removable if it has to be-- and then screw it into the canister step 11 wire your car with all the ends that go to the fuse panel ending behind the metal or panel that your "extinquisher" bolts to and conect them to the other end of the quick disconect step 12 take this disconect and pull it so some wire shows and you have some slack, and pop it onto the connector on the cannister and bolt the canister onto the holder step 13: pull wiring out of the wway and tack up slack and now youv not only got a hidden fuse panel but when it needs changed you dont need to struggle under the dash forever but simply undo two bolts holding the canister clamp together/shut pop the connector and then take the lid off and fix your fuse in your lap NOTE: you could also locate the disconect ends both in the canister with a rubber grometed hole in the side of the canister instead of a square hole with the connected fitted in it and then you woudl just un screw the lid, pop the disconect apart and take the lid with the fuse panel with you note 2: also a good car security idea, they cant evenhot wire a car if thers no fuse panel
I love these old pyrene extinguishers, but I am not sure on the new style ones used as dummies. what a surprise for someone that would be who is trying to help you in a car fire
yeah i wasnt thinking of a new style one, definatly go with an old style one so it doesnt get ripped off--lessin the chances even more by having it bolted into the clamp not just clamped but if you like the idea and still think itd get riped out ina fie put it on the inside frame rail ala jimmy shines over flow tank. make it look like an over flow tank by putting the ingoing wires in a rubber sleeve and run them from the front cross memeber by the rad heck you could even run the real over flow tube down and to the ground with no over flow tucking the end so its not all that noticable and then put a stealthy looking T ish fitting on it so it looks like its going from the rad to the fitting onto your "over flow" and no one notices that the real over flow end is tucked away and so is the in coming wiring. hell get creative and take it a step further! when you take the canister apart put a wall/divider in it, so the domed end is a half and the open end a half. then run your over flow into the top fo the canister and it actualy IS an over flow. then wire your car and snake the wires threw the rails behind the boxing plate for at least the front rails length--or tuck them out of site on the inside top part of your unboxed rails -- and then enter you wires via a grometed hole....if you wanted to you could mount the whole thing to the frame rail with one solid chunk of tube on the over flow end and then put a fake 'suport' that mimics that one and run your wires threw that stealthy and easy to get at ect ill put a pic up in a sec tim
pic green= anti freez over flow red/blue= fuse block brown- quick disconect grey=shows solid mount and the fake mount going to the rail
Im with you on this one I've lost a home before due to a fire and almost lost the rivi at one point. You can never have enough fire extinguishers. Have you ever had to replace everything you own. Let me tell you it ****s.
