I will only buy from long standing HAMBers. They don't neccessarily have to be Alliance members but I like to see they have been around awhile and actively participate in the forum. If all their posts are in the cl***ifieds then they have parasite status in my eyes and I won't risk dealing with them.
Gee, I have bought stuff from SEVERAL HAMBers that were not alliance members, no problem with ANY of them. But I sure as hell wouldn't buy from any member, alliance or otherwise, if he was new to the group and all his posts were in the cl***ifieds.
Saxman, I take it a step farther then you, if someo wants to buy parts from me and it is thier 1st or second post I don't sell to them. it costs me money at the bank if thier check bounces or the M/O is bogus.
My English is not too good, but even I noticed that there's something wrong. He' s rather from Usbekistan than from the UK...
It appears that Mr Shelley from Indiana is at his tricks again. On 6 Jan I posted a 'Want' cl***ified for a Fordson E83W steering column. Within twelve hours I had a message from 'jr291' asking for me to contact him by email to jrshelley561 at gmail.com regarding the steering column. I have the Fordson E83W steering column for sale in excellent shape ad condition. I'm asking $150 shipped. I will be shipping via UPS or FedEx whichever you prefer and shall accept payment via Money gram as my PayPal is dormant. What's your shipping address? <O</OSimilarly to the post above by nhmikel, John Shelley's PayPal account was 'dormant' and that money would be accepted by MoneyGram. Hmmm. Here is the rest: <O</OI just confirmed your shipping address and shall make shipping arrangement ASAP. I am currently confined to bed rest at home as I'm recovering from a spinal cord surgery. My wife works with FedEx, so I will have her pick up payment and arrange shipping for me.<O</O Here are the details you would need to send the Money Gram:<O</O Name: Rachel Shelley <OAddress: 2346 Papaw Ct Plainfield, IN 46168-3802, Indiana<O Amount to send: $150<O</O After payment do email me the details below from Money gram payment receipt:<O</O Sender's Name:<O</O Reference #:<O</O Amount sent:<O</O I shall email you a tracking # and other shipping info once my wife<O></O> ships out. Kindly let me know once you've sent payment so I can have<O></O> my wife complete shipping arrangement.<O></O> thanks, <O</OJohn. What is interesting is that when I asked for photos of the steering column, this was the response: Sorry, I'm having technical difficulties uploading images due to my poor ISP bandwidth supply but condition is good and perfect. It all sounded fishy, so I checked jr291 on the HAMB, to find that he had registered the same day as my post, and that he was banned. By further searching on this site, I found this post. Googling 'John Shelley Indiana' confirmed the address provided, and a phone number. So ... do I accept Mr Shelley's offer to supply a Fordson steering column with no photos provided, but his ***urance that the 'condition is good and perfect', send cash by MoneyGram, and await goods that will most likely never arrive? Bit risky methinks!! By the way, I'm still looking for a Fordson E83W steering column!!
If the money is sent Western Union or Moneygram, all they need is the number code and they can claim it anywhere in the world. The address on the payment means nothing, no mules necessary.
I have never heard or used the word "dormant" in any transaction. On a chopper forum I belong to, there was a guy in CA scamming guys from overseas by just plain taking their money and never shipping the product knowing full well it would be a pain to try to prosecute him. ***holes.
The photo of the truck supposedly being parted out tells me it's bogus. The photo could have come from anywhere on the internet. It's a solid original truck that one would have no trouble selling complete as is. I have driven many trucks that didn't look that good.
Have to agree with saxman on this one. I have bought a few items in the past from long standing HAMBers and have had them shipped all the way to New Zealand with no problems. If I see a "gem" for sale and the guy only has 1 or 2 posts, I find it easier just to walk away and forget it. Paypal also covers you if the transaction goes bad, similar to a credit card, you have about 40 days to lodge a complaint and get your money back.
I have had good results purchasing parts from HAMB members that were not in the Alliance or Vendors, but that is mostly for items far too obscure for a scammer to bother with.
Read this .... @ http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=630482 Folks who make money or save money by buying or selling here should support the HAMB Jim
BAM!! That's the last word!! Best insurance on the net, you want to take a chance, just save time and flush your money down the ****ter!!!-MIKE
I don't care if someone is an alliance member or not, if you've been around a fair amount of time and seem like you aren't a flake I'll help out, if I can and provided it's not cutting my nose off to spite my face in the process. But I also get a fair number of PMs from guys who don't even post, maybe their post count is under 10. I just had one like that who wanted a U-joint I asked for an ID on in a thread like two years ago. Which I think I still have, but I didn't feel like digging it out of the storage unit in 0'F weather. He didn't want to wait a few days, so now I guess he's changing the driveline. Oh well. I'm just one guy, I'm not Autozone. One messaged me tonight asking for trim parts and I've no idea what year or make car they're supposed to be for. Another one with just a handful of posts. Those kind of guys I'm less inclined to sell to, because I figure if anyone is going to just go **** or be a problem, it's somebody no one knows who could care less if they get a bad rep on the board.
I've mostly had good experiences both buying and selling here, from both Alliance members and not. The biggest sale I ever made here, they had a ZERO post count, and in the UK. I never expected the money to show, but it did. However, I have also had MANY flakes, saying "Ill take it", then NOTHING. Not even a pm saying "sorry, I cant buy it right now." Just letting me wait. Those come from all walks, high and low post counts, and both Alliance members and non. I guess it just goes with the game. I just block them and move on. If someone doesnt want to buy from me because I dont have a spare $50 to spend, I can live with that.
Sometimes I never get a response when i am asking about a part. I recently bought an engine on ebay and it looks like they already spent the money to frickin ship it I hope that flatty gets here or I am screwed also.
How 'bout I put a wanted ad for a tri power nailhead manifold. Some guy from Calif responds ,and we haggle price, and come up with a number. he then tells me to western union the dough. He gives me his name and address (not the same as on the HAMB info) So I call the police station of the town he gave me. Cop on the phone says no such street and the town has a population a little over a thousand, says never heard the name.. I email the swine and tell him to send it C.O.D and I will pay all the ***ociated fees. Still waiting for a response, that was over a year ago !!! So WATCH YOUR *** !!!!
here is a good one i just ran into. i sold a guy a part on e-bay. i then see it listed on e-bay for about 20 percent more than i sold it for. no big deal i made my money. i put it in my watch list just to see how high it goes. in his description of the item he states it works as intended with no issues.just like i sold it. the auction ends with a no sale. next thing i know he contacted e-bay saying the part was bad and wanted his money back. i don't check my e-bay every day so i was surprised to get a cod for 65 dollars for a package. i refused the shipment only to find ebay sided with him and was going to take the money out of my paypal account due to no contact with ebay. well i called ebay and gave him the auction number i saved. i also told them about the cod item. ebay said they will put this seller under a microscope. he violated the buyers protection agreement when he relisted the item he also tried to screw ebay over the cod because they sent him a prepaid shipping label. i gues if you sell on ebay look for your parts to turn up so you can protect yourselves. the lengths some will go to only to be caught red handed. if i had not saved the auction i would have been screwed.
