49 plymouth P-17 chassis gas tank options.....

I'm working on a buddy's 49 plymouth 2dr fast back that has been sitting since 84 We pulled the gas tank and it is patched on the bottom with a old sign and full of rust. I'm looking for ideas for a replacement tank, I haven't been able to find a source for it but maybe someone here has had success with a universal application or something from another car that would work with minor modifications.

 

mid 60's mustang is close.

 

Let me know what works I'm doing the same thing to a 1950 plymouth fastback. Check out the Jeep CJ models also, they look close.

I don't know how different the rear of a 47 Ply. is from a 49, but a friend of mine just installed a Tanks,Inc. tank in his and it fits fine. He measured up the space availible and called Tanks.
