Sounds of the drags, AHRA 1963 Winter Championships, Arizona Raceway, Phoenix Arizona. Features Chris Karamasines Chizler making first p*** over 200 mph.
A lot of these bands still tour. A couple years ago at the Fall Wildwood run, The RipChords, "Hey Little Cobra", played and ripped the place up on Saturday night. Another great band that played was Phil Deal and the Rondells.
Never saw this one. Is that the same Jim Head that has run rails and funnies and now has his son driving? Guy with the sax looks like him.
Bucksnort, I was wondering the same thing about Jim Head & his Del Rays. It sure looks like the dragster driver - sax player.
Does anybody have the Bobby Fuller album with the dragster cover? Bobby and the Fuller Four are standing around Doug Robinsons "Horse Power Engineeering" AA/FD
Wow, lots of songs/albums here that I was unaware of - not surprising though, I dropped out of listening to the radio & collecting Rock'n'Roll music during the latter part of the surf era in the early 60's and became interested in the 'roots' blues, hillbilly, and swing. I started collecting again in the early 70's when there was a resurgence in 50's RnR. I was also an early member of the Australian Rock n Roll Appreciation Society which began in the early 70's and is still going today! I was surprised no-one had included any Chuck Berry car songs such as Maybelline, No particular place to go, No money down & Jaguar and the Thunderbird. What about my all time favourite Instrumental Stick Shift by the Duals. I saw mention of Charlie Ryans Hot Rod Lincoln which he recorded in 1955 as an answer to Hot Rod Race a 1951 hit for Arkie Shibley and his Mountain Dew Boys. I don't have a copy of his, but I do have a version by Arthur 'Guitar Boogie' Smith. Some other notables in my collection include: Twin Pipes and Pinstripes Sammy Masters Spark Plug Four Teens Big Green Car Jimmy Carroll Shot Rod Connie & the Bellhops Race with the Devil, Cruisin, Pink Thunderbird, Gene Vincent & Bluecaps Get outta the Car Treniers Hot Rod Boogie Howard Brady Dig That Ford Doug Harden Hot Rod Collins Kids The Ballad of Thunder Road Robert Mitchum Mercury Blues David Linley Rocket 88 Jackie Brenston Transfusion Nervous Norvus Buick '59 The Medallions V8 Ford Blues Mose Allen Keep on Rockin' & Cruisin,
so I don't realy know what's acceptable as far as hot rod album covers ,songs/instrumentals with hot rod names and songs that mention hot rods or cars eg. catty town "jumped in their rods and pulled out the throttle" . here are some of mine , not all period correct ,but ?
Yep, just bought off ebay. Been wanting this one for a long time. Got an affordable one, the cover had a split at the bottom. Going in a frame. me no care!
I don't actually own this, stole the photos from ebay. Apparently Battle had a whole slew of these. (see second image.)
