What years was the Chevy 292 engine made in mexico? Any links with decoding the numbers on the block?
I think they shifted manufacturing to Mexico after 1984. This may help with the decoding http://www.inliners.org/casting/numbers.html
They all have casting dates on them, just look on the block and see. Your at a dead end if your trying to locate any casting number info for the Mexican or Canadian blocks, only the blocks cast in the US have that info available.
Pinning down the exact year of the block won't change anything regarding buying parts for it. Water pumps and thermostat housings changed over the years, and the first 2 years had smaller flywheel bolts and pins, but after 1980 none of that matters as 1980-89 are all the same.
I agree, there is no need to narrow it down to a year, all the Mexican 292's are considered newer. Probably 1980 -89 #'s are on the p*** side of block in casting. engine code and vin on dist pad.
