Is there anyway I can take this play out of this steering gear box? Is there away to adjust? If not, where can I get a re-man? Thanks alot,Adrian

They can be adjusted but you will not get all of the play out of them. The green book (the Ford service manual) will walk you through the steps. Me, I put a Volve streering box in mine and now it runs down the road straight as an arrow.:)

On top of the box is a nut and screw with a screwdriver slot. Loosen the nut and thighten the screw. Do it a little at a time and check you play in the steering wheel. Don't try to take it all out as you will ruin the gear.

How much play would you say is serviceable? Because I can grab the tire and go back and forth, watching the pitman arm on the gear box and it moves probably 1-2inches/ and theres no play in the bearing or front end. You think I should just turn the screw 1/2 turn at a time? Thank you, Adrian

those stock boxes are notoriously sloppy... i'd change to a volvo box as the fella' above suggested... they fit nicely are bulletproof and take little mods. to set up...i'm doin' it soon...

Everyone that has used the Volvo box has been very pleased.

There is an adjustment in the factory manual "green bible". It involves the four bolts on the bottom on the box. You may have to back off the top adjuster slightly as most have been cranked down or bottomed out. As my notes tell me, loosen slightly and tap bottom counter clockwise. Tap slightly, check steering wheel feel and free play. Continue if nessesary. That is the short short version. The factory manual availible from Kanter, ebay, ect has all this in much more detail.
