here's a 55, a 51 has the same hole and I was just wondering if anybody knew what it was for.... the one on the hump up by the firewall.
It looks like it would be an inspection cover for your clutch throw-out bearing. Wish my Ford had one. I had to remove the entire front floorboard!
I don't have anything with a motor in it around here. I'm pretty sure my 49 has one too, so that would cancel out any powerglide related answer.
good question, I have wondered the same. I thought about welding mine shut, (reduce fumes from coming in) but having access to remove bolts if I wanted to pull the motor without the trans would be nice.
i say transmission bolt access. i dont understand how one could see the clutch throwout bearing, unless the bellhousing is transparent? i never seen a transparent bellhousing???
there is an access hole in the bellhousing for something, probably throwout bearing or something with the clutch.
I have it on my 54 as well. I believe it's there for access, used to index the torque converter to the fly wheel. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
i forgot about that hole in the old bellhousings, im running a later model in my car. thats what i get for running my mouth.
