pics of model a interiors with 4 speed set up

  1. Hello all,
    I'm planning on a SBC v8 and muncie 4 speed in a 30 model A and would like to see some pics of cars set up that way, to see what the shifter placement looks like. And clutch pedal and linkage shots would be a bonus. I'm trying to go for the early 60s style. Any help would be appriciated.

  2. Search for info on "Ansen" pedals. Easy setup, hydraulic clutch slave. works real nice on an early car. Not sure about four speed shifter position, as I'm running a three speed with a top shifter conversion. I know there is not a lot of room between 18" bucket seats though.

    Not trying to be negative, but just imagine a huge pedal assembly bolted to the firewall with the master cylinder sticking out like a sore thumb in the engine compartment. A lot of them looked God-awful. In any case, good luck with your build!

    You can also go with an under floor pedal set up and you wont see anything .Speedway motors has a two pedal set up that will weld to your frame.

  6. Here is a mock up stage of my A coupe. Ford truck pedals adapted to a Chrysler master. I fabbed up a bracket for the bottom of the clutch pedal boss and used a clutch fork that uses a Hiem joint from Speedway. Adjustable Hiems on each end. Works great.

  8. I'm gonna use a bench seat. I'm hoping the shifter ends up just ahead of the seat close to the center. I'll look into the Ansen pedals. Thanks!

  12. Some Guy on here has a '30 coupe with a SBC, Saginaw 4spd and master under the floor.

    I think the one's used in the American Graffiti '32 ford were Ansen pedals.

    Most of them used an early 60's Chevy truck master cylinder.

    Im building the same setup. Ive been looking at others setups and found these pics here on the hamb. Cant remember whos they belong to . But i saved them for referance.

    I originally used an early Chevy pedal assy (late 40's) cut the clutch lever off since I was using an Olds/Hydro at the time (1961)

    When I redid the Vicky in late 70's I made a new clutch lever and welded it back on for the 350/T-10 setup I put in it. The shifter is a slight problem as it's back so far. I cut the Hurst shifter off about 4" high then made a 3/8" steel piece going fwd curved up to which I mounted the actual lever. It was kind of temporary at the time, but it's still there working fine. I can get some pix your interested.

    Inline gmc engine and t-5 trans in a model a coupe, but maybe you can get some ideas from the pedals if nothing else.

    Floor is a little dirty, but Im running a 350 chevy with a 4 speed saginaw and the pedals connect to everything under the floor.

    I have a saginaw 4 speed behind a flathead in my 30 pickup. The Hurst shifter is just ahead of the seat. The handle is mostly vertical with a little turn back on the top. When I place my hand down to the shift knob, I don't have to reach for it, it is in the perfect place, just beside my knee. Don't have any pics of it right now and its cold and dark outside. If you really need them, I could take pics tomorrow.
    I used underfloor original Ford pedals on mine also.

    I had the same problem. I will take pics tomorrow showing how I built a simple spacer that moves the shifter up and forwar to clear the bench seat. I have an under the floor pedal setup that I believe I got from chassis engineering that fits and works great.

    Also your best bet to get stuff to fit is to throw the hurst or whatever bracked away and start from bare linkage, expect some bending too to get things to fit right otherwise you'll be hitting your knee on the shifter. The best bet is the topload 4 speed with jeep top setup instead.
    I know, i have a hurst shifter in a channeled t roadster and it is a clusterfuck of petals and shifter

    Cut the Hurst shifter at the neck and weld a a projection to the right to move it more to the center of the cab.

    Yea i shoulda mentioned with a my channel job the whole shifter woulda been above the floor pan too.... but again it is channeled and my trans is set pretty high too

  29. On some guys car he used the shifter gate, cut a shifter off, used the flat bottom of the shifter and welded a piece of bar stock to the shifter piece. Bent the bar stock to his liking and welded a bolt on top for the shift ball. He moved the shift gate forward with a homemade bracket and bent the bar stock to the pass side under the floor to center it. The pedals are aftermarket under the floor ones, the clutch linkage is bent bar stock, all on a boxed model A frame.

    SG correct me if I'm wrong.
     
  30. no pics, but I had to do major bending of my Hurst shifter back in the sixties on my '29 tudor to get it forward and to the center.
